Blown LT1 (not the power adder :( )

Well my motor just took a dump, sounds REAL bad, JUST like a main and/or rod bearing. I don't have good oil pressure any more and it sounds like the world is coming to an end inside the drivers side head. I pulled the valve cover and looks clean as a whistle. P.S. The motor has never had spray or a blower and is only 50k miles old.

My question is, where can I get a good cheap shortblock that will stand up to the pounding of the strip and still pass smog here in Cali.

383/396 or 355 options would be considered. If anyone knows any good websites or places to call PLEASE let me know Thank you guys and gals for your time very much, I appreciate it.

The displacement of the engine has far less to do with emissions than the camshaft selection. Obviously, a larger engine will 'consume' a larger camshaft. You might want to consult Seth at Combination Motorsports when you reach the point to select your camshaft.

Actually, you may want to have him set up your entire engine.

well i know that the displacement does less, I was thinking about a 383 with my stock setup. All i really need is the damn CARB EO number for a cam, even though I know the 383 won't pass legally, but I know it would pass on the sniffer test I just want to have the number for the cam so they don't hear the cam and write it off.

Stay with a wider LSA on your cam, with a sane duration, and you won't have an issue. There are no aftermarket cams with CARB EO#'s.

I simply denied I had a cam, and blamed the lope on the "exhaust resonance"...the tech didn't have a clue.

BTW, how would any smog technician even know you had a 383 unless you told him? The displacement increase isn't exactly obvious.

That is exactly what I was going to do, I was just gonna tell him that the motor is my stock LT1. What cams are good for passing smog? All I am looking for is something a tiny bit bigger than stock

CC304, im sure Lloyd could hook you up with a custom cam that would make good power and pass the sniffer.

How bad does it sound? This bad?
Call up someone like Combo and get some recomendations and prices to see if they have something that fits you.

FWIW, my CC305 on a 114 lsa passed with no problem, on a stock tune. Fairly mild cam, but offers a bit more than the CC304.
