Blown Head Gasket
Blown Head Gasket
I have a 96 formula which i purchased aboput a month ago and before i bought the car it had recent head work due to blown head gaskets I bought the car and drove it for a good 2k mi. the car was driven around 4-5k. before i blew the heads. then it started acting screwy and started overheating i replaced the water pump but i was too late the head gaskets are blown so im taking it to a friend of mine to help me work on it I thought about buying a rebuild kit from fel-pro which came with forged pistons for about $600, the mechanic im taking it to will charge around $600 or soI was wonderin if this would be a good route to go I will do this if the heads are in good condition and they dont have to be milled
BTW this is my first post and I have done alot of browsing on the site and i love it,I Appreciate the help.

Re: Blown Head Gasket
IMO it is a waste of time to take the heads off and not have them milled. With them being alunimun they are more than likely warped and that could be why you are redoing someone elses head gasket job.
Re: Blown Head Gasket
Ya I'd at least have the heads checked to see if their flat, or else you could just end up doing it all over again in the near future. Besides why risk having coolant leak into a cylinder because you missed somthing and bending a rod?
