Blocking off EGR hose from intake to header

Can this be done and if so how? Any codes to worry about? I am referring to the egr house on the back of teh intake that connects to header...not the egr valve itself.

Anything can be done if you really want too.

Remove the hose, plug the hole in your header with the appropriate pipe plug, now the hole in the manifold is easy.....when you remove the pipe from the manifold you will see a bracket, the metal hose goes into it and it bolts to the manifold.....remove the metal hose from the bracket (this can be tricky and I had to mangle the hose quite a bit to get it out of that bracket) once its out all you need to do is cut a solid gasket in the shape of this bracket out of high heat gasket material (you can buy a sheet of this at your parts store) punch 2 holes so the studs come through and bolt it back on.

Or you could just buy an EGR block off kit. But that would be too easy.

Re: Blocking off EGR hose from intake to header

The EGR riser tube supplies exhaust gas so the EGR valve can put it into the intake manifold. EGR is used to cool combustion temperatures under conditions that cause high combustion chamber temps and the formation of the pollutant oxides of nitrogen (NOx). Typical condition is lugging the engine at too low rpm in too high a gear. In that case, the EGR can actually help you, because it reduces the tendancy to detonate.

Removing it helps nothing, since the EGR system doesn't work at WOT = no performance gain.

Since you have a 94, there is maybe 1 chance in 10 that you will get an SES light/DTC code for the fact that the system is no longer working. There is a diagnostic to check for system operation, but it isn't very sensitive on the OBD-I cars.
