Block off plate

I was just doing a search on a part number for block off plates and most every thread I ran into there were members claiming they had two plates. One for the EGR mating surface and the other for the EGR pipe mating surface.
Just wanted you know that if you use a block off plate on the EGR side then it is not at all necessary to block off the EGR pipe side. Where do you think that passage is channeled to anyway?

Re: Block off plate

some headers do not have a place for the "pipe" to hook up to, that is the only reason you would need the "pipe" block off plate

Re: Block off plate

I just used both plates for the valve and the EGR tube on the back of the intake. Bought the plates from SJM.

Re: Block off plate

malking your own is easy to do, requires the stock EGR so you can copy it out of aluminum
free is better then buying

i cut up a soda can and layered it with some silicone in between each layer, works like a charm

I don't think you understand. Once you block off the EGR side of the manifold crimping the tube or blocking it off is not necessary. You can take it off alltogether.

Re: Block off plate

I would think even if you block off the egr you would still need to block off that hole. I am not certain, but I wouldn't want a hole in the back of my intake. Right now I have my stock manifolds on with the egr and air removed.......but when I do headers here shortly I am gonna buy a block off for that hole. Better safe than sorry is how I look at it....no cutting corners for me.

Re: Block off plate

If you look at the EGRs holes (on the intake) you'll see that under the EGR is two holes , one goes to the inside of the manifold, the other goes to the EGR exhaust tube. When you blcok off the one you essentially blco off the other, as long as the exh manifold or header is plugged there will be no leak.

Re: Block off plate

I diconnected the vacuum line off the EGR, removed the pipe from the plate and bolted a nickle, that's right, a US nickle under the OEM plate to block off the EGR pipe port. Then again, I am not against dumping whatever money it takes into my motor.

Pennies under the flare fittings in the manifold worked like a charm to ditch the pipe completely. Seven cents and no EGR.

That's true, you dont need to block it off. I did it just to keep the port clean even though EGR will never go back on. I guess I'd feel weird if the port was left open lol.

Re: Block off plate

Just make sure you use a good gasket (or some RTV) on the plate that you use to block off the EGR mounting holes. You don't want the possibility of the square hole being able to pull a vacuum on the round hole, which connects to the corrugated pipe connection. Not sure why you wouldn't just throw a plate on the tube connection hole as well. Very easy to make one. Would insure no possibility of a leak.

Not necessarily. Both of them could leak. It may increase the possibility of no leakage, but nothing is completely guaranteed. I'm just saying it isn't necessary is all. From your suggestions I would be confident enough using one plate.
