Block O-rings

I've got an o-ringed block and don't want to run a copper gasket. Is there anyone out there that has any experience using anything other than a copper gasket with an o-ringed block. Please tell me someone out there has done this successfully. I don't think that the o-ring groove could be removed by decking the block and I wouldn't want to take that much "meat" out of the deck anyways.

Help.

Jeez... that sucks.

Cutting receivers in the head... not too much problem but in the block....
They're going to be in there a ways.... probably .035 or so, so unless they cut em' without decking (highly unlikely) you can't go the "deck-til-clean" route.

It's a shot in the dark but maybe a call to FelPro will find you a solution. If you can get an accurate measurement on the OD/ID of the receiver groove, they might have a "loc-wire" gasket that'll work. If not, they can probably do a custom set for you at a price.

That, or you just go back to a copper gasket....

well, whats wrong with the coper head gasket w/wire setup? evenif its not nec. on your car, it will work still. I dont see how that reciever groove would make a standard gasket not work though. but Ive never had a reason to try it. I think a call to felpro or cometic would give you the answers you need though.

Well.... besides the fact that they usually leak, nothing.

If the recess overlaps the compression ring on the gasket, there's a good chance of compromising the seal. I agree with the suggestion to call the experts.

Thanks man, that's exactly what I plan to do. Also found this company who's making a Rubber Coated Copper gasket that supposedly seals fluids better. Some of the LS1 forced induction guys are running them, maybe this is a possible solution. Gonna talk to these guys next week as well.

One way or the other I'll get it figured out.
