block is DONE!!
hey guys, gotta a few questions for you. what would cause the lifter spider/dogbone to bend upwards in the lifter valley? my intake lifter on cylinder 2 is seized in the block. there is some rubbing marks where the two hole retainer holding both lifters down rubbed in the valley. the weird thing is the rocker arm looks good, the pushrod looks straight and not bent. what would cause the spider to bend like that? i dont think the piston hit the valve. is there any way to tell if there was piston to valve contact before taking off the head? i'm hoping there is no head damage...&^^%%$$$##!@... i don't have many miles on these advanced induction heads...
damn i'm sad....

how seized is it? are you sure it wont move? its pretty common for the lifters to be hard to lift out of the hole, but usually you can move it back and forth a little. try soaking it in penetrating oil and see if you can work it out that way. what made you take it apart now anyways?

ran it a bit and noticed that there was no oil going to some of the rockers. i decided to buy some lifters with lower miles and while pulling the intake off, noticed that the dogbone was bent up. not looking forward to pulling this motor out, at least the wife feels bad...lol

oh thats bad then. spun cam bearings maybe then. if the bearing spins, it'll block the oil hole for those lifters/pushrods/rockers. totally fixable, but the blocks gotta come completly apart. you can ball a ball hone or a flat stone hone from most auto parts stores and put that in a drill and resize the lifter hole. just use a lifter and test fit it as you go. use one of the good holes to compare it to needs to be a snug fit, but move freely.
or you could buy my 383 short block? forged assembly, nitrous ready.
