Blew tranny, do i need new tc?
I blew my tranny back this fall and am just now getting it rebuilt and was wondering if it would be ok to reuse the tc that was in it before or should i buy a new one? When i drained the tranny to take it out to get rebuilt, the oil was very black and smelled burnt, but no parts or pieces were in the oil pan. The tc that i had on it was a Yank 2,800 stall and it had been on for a little under 3 months. So do you guys think it would be ok to put it back on the car after the rebuild, or should i buy a new converter?
Hey dude, yea i hear yea. I blew my tranny back when i first got my car. It was a stock 4L60E. When i was talking to my tranny guy, he stated that when you blow a tranny, via the clutches or gears, that they particals contaminate the fluid, i.e. you have a glitter look to the fluid.
He said that they NEVER re-use TC's that have burnt fluid in it, cus its nearly impossible to get it all out and to put that in a refreshed tranny could spell disaster. I know companies like PI, Yank, and a few others off some sorta cleaning, or take the TC a part and clean it, if that unfortuante thing happend.
Check and see if thats possible. But to put a TC with contamination back into a fresh rebuild that went for between 1200-1800$$ is gonna be painful when it only last a few months or 10K miles which ever comes first.
