Re: Bleeding the coolant...NEED HELP

Sure as ****... I took it out for a LITTLE SPIN this morning. I had to fill the radiator back up with coolant because it looked pretty much empty.

I went 3 miles out but when I started to come back it began to over heat.

I rolled in to my drive way and checked the passenger floor. There was a huge puddle of green coolant.

I am ready to do cheetah flips now that I finally found the problem.

Thanks for the help Guys!!!

Now I just need some help with changing out the heater core. Any suggestions?

I went to advance and they are charging $80.00 FOR A HEATER CORE for a 95 Z.

Your Welcome!

$80 sounds about right maybe a little high, try calling around my local pep boys had one in stock for a little less if I remeber correctly.

Oh and this will help!
There are others out there but that should get you started!

I put one in mine, I only paid 40 or 45 for it, but I forget where, I think NAPA or pep boys.

And it wasn't that bad, I have the big GM sevice manual, and followed the instructions.

Re: Bleeding the coolant...NEED HELP

Just in case somebody else is looking for a heater core....

I have called around and Car Quest has them for $29.91 with a 3 year warranty.

Auto Zone, Advance, Pep boys, and NAPA All want some where between 69.00 - 89.00 $$$$.

Of course it could be priced different for different areas of the country.
But a good giuideline.

I think Autozone was the only place that had a limited lifetime warranty.( I didnt ask Advance for their warranty info)

I didn't disconect any of them when I did mine, they are one of those warnings that everyone tells you to do before working on your car. Like dicscontect the battery, if you know what you are doing and don't short anything out then there is nothing to worry about, but if you are really worried about it then you can probably find the fuse info on shoebox's site.

Re: Bleeding the coolant...NEED HELP

Well I think I have proved that I am not an accomplished mechanic.

But if I were to disconnect the battery would that prevent the air bag from going off?
Ive looked on SHBOX.com and unless I missed it ther is no picture of the dash fuse box telling which of the fuses is the air bag deployment fuse.

Re: Bleeding the coolant...NEED HELP

Yep sure as **** I removed the heater core and the thing looked BAD like it gave up years ago. But nobody ever replaced it.

I think the previous owner was a chick so I imagine she didnt do anything mechanical wise.

But when I first bought the car it had a water pump bypass hose in place.

Well looks like this thread has served its purpose thank you to everybody that helped out with suggestions.

Re: Bleeding the coolant...NEED HELP

Well back to the flippin drawing board!!!!!

I took it out to drop off some blockbuster movies about 2 miles away. Everything was fine and the temp stayed about 180*.

I got back in the car drove to autozone and it was fine.

After autozone I got in and started driving home and it sure as **** started to over heat AGAIN!!!

I put the heater core in as instructed and I had no extra parts left over (it was actually very easy)
I went through the whole bleeding the coolant system again.

I do not know what else to do.....

HELP!!!!!

Re: Bleeding the coolant...NEED HELP

Sorry to hear that!! so I know you have been through a lot with this thing but are you sure everything is tight and no way for air to get into the system?
