bilstien shock install?

I just purchased a set of bilstiens for my 94'z28 a4. Installing the rear was easy but as I inspected the fronts theirs a large cup supporting the bottom of the spring on the stock shock and only a small lip on the new shock.I'm i to use the cup off the old shock or buy an aftermarket? If i do use the old cup do I have to use a press to get it off? Thanks fot any help

Those cups should just fall off when you pull the springs off. Then just put them on the bilsteins.

You take the old one off the used shock, and place it on the new Bilstein shock. It should come off with a light tap of the hammer.

You have a spring compressor right? Having an extra pair of hands is almost invaluable. Also, have some sort of tool handy that can grind off the top nut on the shock once it's out of the car (with the spring compressed). The drivers side on mine was fine, but the passenger side was all rusted up and I had to grind it off. Major pain, especially when all I had to use was a dremel.

You will love them!
I just upgraded to them all around with the stock springs still in place on my daily drvr 95 z28. They are sick! (Awesome) and after getting new BF T/A ZR Rubber it hooks like a maaaaatha. I am very impressed with the performance and the price of Bilstein!
If you can, finish off the front end with some slotted/drilled rotors and ceramic pads. The 95 has 155K miles and after I did the above upgrades it handles better now than it did from the showroom when I drove it home 8 yrs ago.

About 6 mo ago, I did the same with BMR springs. Did the Thunder Racing brake package (powerslot rotors, Hawk HPS pads, and SS brake lines) at the same time, and love the results. Much flatter in the corners, and the brakes are much better. Maybe not as good as the LS1 brake swap, but a huge improvement over worn stock pads and rotors.
