You can build a 454CID small block with an aftermarket block with no issues----- Bring your checkbook----- lots of special stuff to buy like heads big enough to feed it and a sheetmetal intake. That is if you want it to make the HP it is capable of.
Cubic bucks is all it takes.

Re: biggest ci?
if you want to get serious, i would check out more performance...they have a few packages for ltx motors, lsx motors. If you really have the cash flow then I would highly recommend their 427 c5r motors. I think the 427s are around 25 gs or so. But you can also get to 700+ levels with that motor.

Cnc-motorsports.com
They had a forged rotating assembly for $1500 I believe. I am so tempted to get this.
My question is this without throwing it off topic.
How many miles can you expect to see out of a 396 with a couple track meets a month and daily driving?

Re: biggest ci?
We are still talking about LT1s, correct?
If so, the biggest ones I've heard of are 409 CID. TPIS built it and called it the ZZ409. 4.04" bore by 4" stroke I believe.
A guy can built a 383 for almost the same cost as a 350; but you start getting bigger than that, the cost goes up exponentially. IMHO, it's better to build the 383 and put the money you would spend going for another 13-26 CID on better heads.

Check out www.adperformance.com
I'd take the money that you were going to put into some special 409 or whatever, keep it a 396 or 383, and put the extra money into heads and valvetrain.

Re: biggest ci?
I just bought a 396 kit internally balanced for 1800, figure another 7 grand for heads/cam and rebuild. you need to look at around the 10 thousand area for the whole thing with parts and machine work, plus a few bumps. I wouldn't recommend anything bigger as the cylinder walls on these blocks get very thin beyond a .030 overbore. if you really have money to burn, buy a built up big block and go from there. but for that money a 383 or 396 with a turbo/supercharger would probably satisfy your wants for anything on the street.
