Re: Biggest cam you can buy??

you can go to a solid roller and go up to .700 lift. I just bought one that with 1.6 r.r's is .704lift but its a solid roller and is not really meant for street driving. Its all in what you want out of your car. and How streetable you want it to be. I will be building a 396 that will be all out performance! Thats why I am going to the solid roller.

Something bigger than the 847 is the 848, for starters.

Actually I had a GM 849 cam once. It was so big it took two guys to lift it.

You had to remove the cam bearings to get the lobes thru the cam bores they were so big. Putting the cam bearings back in was a bi**h. I've never heard SStrokerAce cuss so much.

You need to decide how the car will be used, and do some researching.
Do not just buy the "biggest and baddest" cam you can find.

That's what I mentioned earlier! I have a 306 in my car right now but for my race only engine that I will be building I am going with a solid roller with some serious air flow but I will either be doing a twin turbo setup or a blower! SO yes definetely decide BEFORE you buy your cam on how you want to use it then build a engine to meet that.
