Biggest cam on stock stall?
Re: Biggest cam on stock stall?
Maybe i missed the answer, but the question was "Biggest cam on a stock stall" Seems like it was lost on the Physics of stall converters. So what is the biggest cam you can "actually" get on a stock stall?? Good drivability.
Would it be the Hotcam or similar? I was thinking going up a notch with my stock TC. Thanks

I think my crane 210/224 matches up to my stock stall fine. It wouldn't mind a ~2800 though, but it drives like stock and still makes plenty of power, even though people seem to think you have to go with a huge cam to make decent power.

No, it's when people present bad information. Coming from someone who doesnt have a stall (you), to someone who has riden in multiple stalled cars, as well as owning one, I can tell you that your "idea" is wrong.
If you are right, I guess the millions in R/D that converter company's have spent yeilded nothing? Just do me a favor, get in a stock LS1/LT1 auto and get in a stock LS1/LT1 auto with a 3500 stall with a 2.5str, hit it from 85mph, then tell me your theory is correct.

i already challenged anybody to show a mistake in the calculations i provided. I would be more than happy to see where I am wrong. I also offered to have somebody like injuneer comment on the efficacy of higher stalls in higher vs. lower rpm situations.

Re: Biggest cam on stock stall?
I had an XE 224/230 with the stock stall for a long time. I had fun with it... Was it the 'ultimate setup'? Obviously not.
Sometimes in life, you can't get absolutely everything you need right away. But there's no point in getting stuck in a state of indicisive paralysis and doing nothing. Go for what you can, get things done in the best order you can and don't sweat the nitpickers.

Re: Biggest cam on stock stall?
From a daily driver perspective, it wasn't too bad, just some lurching at a dead stop. From a drag racing perspective, a higer stall would've clearly been better.
I thought it was a great cam though, lots of fun with that set up!
