Blow through a straw and then do the same through a paper towel tube, the bigger the hole the more air can get through....so yeah a bigger TB is better, and since the intake is already ported you don't have to have that done....

I would just check on the parts for sale section, I'm sure you can find one in there for a good price, Or on fbody.com, there are usually alot of new posts there in the forsale section. Either that or check on ebay..

I'm going to go with a 58mm Holley but BBK also sells them.

I believe your stock is fine until you start running 383/blower combos

Re: bigger throttle body?

Though I don't have any scientific data to prove this, I'm thinking that as long as the intake diameter is at least the same size as the TB, then this is optimized. What good would a (hypothetical example only) 80mm intake have if the TB is only 48mm?

No matter how large the intake diameter is, the choke point (typically the TB right?) will only flow so much.

Re: bigger throttle body?

of course Randy L. it can only flow as much as the smallest point. only reason i have 58mm holes is this is new intake and it came that way. i can still use 48mm or i have option of bigger 58mm thats all.

Re: bigger throttle body?

I just bought the holley 58 mm from Summit. Nice piece, billet aluminum too.
It will be a benefit at higher rpms, where the airflow is greatest.

I remember Madwolf waying not to bother with a bigger throttle body until you are making some huge numbers (like 450rwhp+) Sure, you'll gain 5 or so with one, but the money could be better spent elsewhere.

True, but which one has more velocity? The air moving out of the straw is moving much faster. The same goes for exhaust, if you put on dual 3 in. exhaust on a stock motor it will just decreace the velocity and you may lose power. You can always port you stock one to 52mm for now and save for that 58. I dont think that a 58 is really necesary untill you go past 450 horse like madwolf said.

But there is still no point to porting the stock tb either, cause unless you can make the flappers bigger its still gonna be 48mm........

And james I guess you got that retainer i sent? is the engine in the car yet??? Hows it running?

Re: bigger throttle body?

I know there are some "companies" on ebay that will port it out and replace the blades, but I hear alot of people are unhappy with them because the blades stick open and you get a horrible idle.

Re: bigger throttle body?

and if you're gonna spend the money on having it ported you might as well just spend a little more and get a used 52 or 58..
