Big problem with buddy's 95 T/A M6, will only shift into fourth!

My buddys 95 T/A M6 is mildy modd'ed with a cam and headers, etc.

He went out to race anther buddy of mine, and he ran it through the gears, and a little into fourth.

His car was then smoking, so he headed back to my house, on the way, he found that it wont shift out of fourth.

When we got back, it smelled like clutch, but still will only go into fourth or nuetral.

Figured it's either the tranny or the clutch, but when we pushed the car back, it was making a popping noise like something that was rotating was making it, but the car was in nuetral then.

Need some advice,
James

Sounds like the clutch to me, last year before I put the car away for the winter, I stopped at a red light and then it wouldn't go into any gears after that! I finally jammed it into third and drove all the way home in 3rd gear. Replaced the cluth the next day and all is well now!
