Better to have steering shaft all the way down on the rack, or more up on the colume?

Is there an idel position for the steering shaft to be in, would it be better for it to be all the way down on the rack, or more up on the colume, or should it be more so in the middle, or does it matter much? I took it off for the header install and I didnt check to see where it was positioned before I took it off.

the bolt wont go in the bottom portion if the shaft isn't down far enough...I found that out about 15 minutes ago. It seems as though there is a set place for it

Just line it up to where the "wear" marks are. The Steering linkage kind of sets it'self in. you should check your rag joint too... Wish I did when I had the chance too.

I'v already had it in awhile now, and before I put it on, I cleaned everything pretty good, If I recall right you couldnt see the slotted area on the column, but It wont go that far up with out hitting the header tube, I even had to cut those thin metal brackets that connects to the rag joint off to clear it. The bottom bolt will go through cus it's a crimp fit, just has to fit over a metal stub on the rack.
