Better flowing Y-pipe for Pacesetter LTs?

The Pacesetter Y pipe has a simple tube intersection, so the left and right exhaust streams 'crash' into each other rather than merging together smoothly. This does not seem to be as good for flow as a 2-1 merge style, like the Kooks or Mufflex Y-pipes have. I don't know how much the merge design affects power.

I can't find the better 2-1 merge style with slip fit connections to fit the Pacesetter headers. Does anybody know if one is available, or if one of the 2-1 merge Y-pipes can be modified to work to work with the Pacesetters? I want the slip fit for ground clearance.

To make it easy to compare, both styles can be seen here:

Thanks.

I haven't seen an off the shelf off-road y-pipe that will cater to the slip-fit Pacesetter headers. If you want something with better flow, you may have to have it custom made.

I always thought about cutting off the end of my y-pipe and putting this flowmaster merge in there to see if there would be any gains. But with the idea of true duals floating around my head im not sure if i will ever get it done!

They make them in 3'' but you have to call summit for the part number. I had it somewhere but cannot find it.

According to a PM today from Sean at Speed Engineering, they don't have a picture of the actual Pacesetter Y. However, he answered my question:

'PaceSetters Y-Pipe is a 2/1 equal merge though. '

So, the Pacesetter Y DOES have the 2-1 merge. Excellent. Problem solved. One more thing to like about the Pacesetter products. Although, that means 95% of the pictures for that Y-pipe that I found fin catalogs on the web are wrong. I hope Sean was right, I just gave him my order. Good price.

Hey, thanks for the pix! That is the welded tube style, NOT the parallel 2-1 merge like Mufflex has. Dangit, Sean from Speed-Eng misled me and I ordered last nite! I should have known that 95% of the pics on the web are CORRECT. But I trusted him.

I would have bought the headers from somebody anyway, but I'm not pleased that Sean evidently either didn't take the time to understand the question, or didn't know what he is talking about and didn't bother to look at the photo links. I would have bought from Texas Speed had I caught this earlier. It was hopefully an honest mistake, but very sloppy. Hmmm. I still have another $4K of parts left to buy......someplace.

I wouldnt worry about the "crashing" effect much. I have a custom 2.5" y-pipe behind my pacesetters that crashes together and it works just fine.

actually ive got a vid of it if. header clips are about halfway through:

I was gonna post last night that he was wrong but wanted to be sure before i did. Ive heard that changing the merge can gain 10hp.

Well, in a couple of months when I have the car back together, I'll mock this up under the car and see what it takes to install a better merge. Looks like 2 new 45* elbows, installed a few inches upstream of the original welded joint, could give me the 2 parallel tubes needed to use a 2-1 parallel y-collector. Like Jegs p/n 389-Y250300A. The inlets on that one are 2.5", though, so that exact part won't work.

If somebody can substantiate the 10HP, I would even take the time to make a custom Y.
