Which is the best Y pipe to get between the SLP and the Borla?

I have a 1994 Formula A4 car. I am wanting to get a Y pipe to install on the stock exhaust manifolds. I am looking at the SLP 2 1/2 and the Borla 2 3/4 Y pipe. My question is, which one of the two would give me the most gains in hp and torque on a fairly stock car? Also, is there any loss in low end torque by going to a bigger Y pipe? Please everybody reply if you can.

I think you will get this a lot but i would just go with headers and a ypipe. The main reason besides the extra hp, is that when i was taking my old ypipe off i busted 3 of the 6 studs off on the manifolds. That would be a major pita to fix, my buddy had the same results on his header install. Get some headers.

I have the slp on my 95 formula. Fit good and went on easy. I got mine on ebay for 100 bucks shipped and it was new. The stock y-pipe is definately the main restriction in the exhaust system. I have seen dyno results of 7-12 hp by installing an aftermarket y-pipe. If you have to buy one new and are planning on more mods over time it makes more sense to go with a good mid length header. If not the y-pipe is the way to go.

As far as breaking of exhaust studs goes, I soaked mine over night with penetrating oil and had no problems.

I just took off the SLP because I put on SLP headers. If you would like it I am willing to let it go for very cheap. Just E-mail me and we can work out the details.

I did notice a difference in tone of the exhaust, it kind of mellowed it out a bit. As far as performance, I never went to the track or the dyno, but I have seen the dynos online. Let me know what you decide,

Jay

I have the SLP y-pipe with stock manifolds w/Borla cat back on my '93 now. The fit is good. I did the !cat mod along with the y-pipe install and noticed an improvement in the butt-o-meter but no track times or dyno #'s to post. I had to put the full block off plate in the Borla because the car was louder than hell after the y-pipe/ !cat install . I've had this set up for over a year and I still like it.
