best xfi cam for bolt on lt1

whats the best and/or biggest comp xfi cam for a full bolt on 95 6 speed firebird? its for my friend & he cares as much about the way it sounds as the way it performs. i was unsure about valve to piston clearance tho. he will be running beehive springs. thanks_ Nick

None, they are underperforming valvetrain eaters.

I would use a cc503. With stock heads bigger is not better.

My advice, re-read the last two posts. You or your buddy won't be sorry.

Lunati voodoo cams- I think they are a better design although I have never had a chance to run one.

The only engine dyno testing I've seen on an xfi cam showed it losing 1 fwhp and otherwise being the same. It was a small block Ford engine dyno test. I didn't find that too impressive.

I made 372rwhp on a mild 355 build with decent ported heads. I think it's a good cam, but I have seen several people with valvetrain issues. Should be better with a stroker since your rpm range is lower.

thats pretty strong, was that with the 918 beehive springs? does it have good bottom end power, from like 2500rpm?

It was with beehive springs, but stouter than the 918's. It's actually 374/363 now that I look at the graph again. It's been a while, lol.

give lloyed elliot a call an have him get you a custom cam. its gonna cost as much as the cc503 but its gonna be specifically for your application. so you will see more gains from it an he can have it cut to sound the best possible. plus he can tell you what springs would work with your combo.

I made 325rwhp through an unlocked stalled auto, midlength headers, 13x,xxx mile motor on drag radials with the cc503. I imagine this cam in a lower mileage car with lt's and 6 speed shouldn't have a problem hitting 350rwhp

i was goign to go CC503 for heads cam project.. but that turned into a 383 Project that i am Using a XFI cam on. good for 383/forged bottom end, not so good for bolt ons i'd say. actually, the cc503 is for sale now.. 112LSA if you didn't want to deal with a custom grind.
