Best wide band w/ data reporting?
Re: Best wide band w/ data reporting?
Vacuum you can live without but Fuel Pressure gauge could be very handy. Things break, and I'd rather be looking at my fuel pressure when it drops off at high RPM than guessing why my motor popped a piston.

It will lay down long before it does any damage and ya should be able to tell something is wrong and a pressure guage is as close as my shop(don't need one in the car).If ya are running NO2 without a fuel pressure shut down then ya going to pop a piston and ya will pop it before the FP guage can tell ya.

I also understand, and not necessarily disagree with Larry. It is personal preference, in having the equipment to bypass tunes on a chasiss dyno. Similar to having the equipment to do your own PCM alterations, compared to having someone mail you a tune.

If I had the 3-4 thousand it takes to get the equipment to burn a chip and flash a computer I would. But then the work starts and I would have to go to some kind of schooling to learn how to use it without hurting something.
The Ford boy's have Criss Johnson to do the Ford's but nobody wants to do the Chevy's in this area.
A guage will tell ya something is wrong but ya should know something is wrong without the guage.
(broke spring, bent valve, flat cam,air intake, etc.) The car will give ya signs(slow ET, strange exhaust sound, backfire, etc). Like "I've got your sign"take me home and fix me kinda thing.
I reckon it would come down to preference and how much jewelery ya want on your car.

AGAIN, how much?

OK, so you are not familiar with what it takes to burn a chip, or flash a PCM. I'll accept that.

The softwear is $2500.00 by it's self,a laptop,chip burner,and some jewelery.
So if ya never have checked that is it.
More than fimillar with what it takes and I ain't talking LT-1 Edit.
Re: Best wide band w/ data reporting?
You can get well equipped to burn chips for less than $500 bucks. Check moates.net
I like to use the 5v output and put it to some unused pin on the ECM then record it threw datamaster or some other dataloggin software.
its nice, andI get to compare WB against vaccum, RPM, MAF etc.

Re: Best wide band w/ data reporting?
I think guages are handy, having gone with no spedo in my daily driver for over 5 months till i finally got around to finding the short.
There is a reason for guages. You wouldn't drive a car without a Coolant Temp guage, or oil pressure guage or a fuel guage. At least I wouldn't. You need guages to give you a warning when something is going on. Now yes some guages are absolutely unnessisary/ at least half out there are for show, but some are very helpful in pinpointing problems. Otherwise we'd all just have a huge check engine light and run back do the Chevy garage when it came on...and let them pull out their huge scanners. The fact of the matter is you need guages, sensors and electronics, and i don't know many people who can look at an 02 sensor and tell if it's bad by it's looks.
But in all honestly if you are just going to have someone set up the car for you and then you drive it then yea don't get a wideband it will be a waste.
