Question Best way to tape oil pan w/out removing?

I've got a 7qt moroso oil pan w/ nothing special on it except the windage tray scrapper, baffles etc. What's the best way to tap w/out removing the pan? Is there a safe way? I'm installing a oil temp sensor guage and want this done w/out any real pain involved.

Has anyone installed one without removing their pan? Thanks guys for any insight.

Installing a Vortech blower involves tapping the oil pan to add a fitting for the oil return. I started with a small punch to make a pilot hole. Then a progressively used a series of larger punches to get the hole to the proper size to tap the hole. The punches bend the oil pan metal into the hole providing increased surface area for the fitting (or sensor) to grab. I tapped the hole using a heavy grease on the tap to capture the metal pieces as best I could. When complete I changed the oil and filter after a brief engine run (to wash and extra metal pieces into the filter.

You need to select a location on the pan that provides clearance for the sensor as well as in your case gets the sensor into the oil.

Why dont you just use the hole where the drain plug is? Ive seent that done a few times. Or just use a punch and weld a bung on.

If you're going to use a center-punch on the oil pan, do it where the oil pan is the stongest, on a corner or something. Just did mine for the supercharger, and it worked flawlessly.

Thanks for the info. As for the drain plug it's smaller alot smaller than the stk drain plug. Being over here I can't find the proper fittings adapters etc to do that. Believe me that was the 1st option I had in mind.

Thanks again!
