Best way to remove manifolds?

Ok, im going to be tackling the head gasket swap tomorrow, first, ill be removing the intake manifold, and then the exhaust manifolds. This is a high milage motor, and im worried about breaking some (if not all) of the exhaust bolts in the heads. whats the best way to break them loose with the least chance of breaking them? soaking them in liquid wrench?

i'll be starting this around 10am, hopefully ill have the heads off by 5pm...

I would spray some penetrating oil on them and let 'em sit for a while. In case you do break off some bolts, at least they won't be too hard to get out since the heads will be removed from the engine.

One word, Kroil. If you can't find that, get some PB Blaster. Works wonders.

When removing my old exhaust manifolds, I soaked all of the old bolts with PB Blaster for a few days. A few day span may have been overkill, but every single bolt came out with virtually no effort with the socket wrench.
