My 2 cents......."Supposedly" Mr Gasket is now packaging their 5716 gaskets sepperately and the packaging sticking issue is resolved(I hear)....but I really still prefer the Impala gaskets quality wise........and ofcourse the Cometics are the best of the bunch here, but the block and head surfaces should be at the right (cometic recomended) surfaced finish for them to seal best......this was more headache than it was worth for me, but that's just my opinion............Joe

The Cometic H1656027S is not on their website. It must be a custom build. Is this a MLS gasket?

I see, they certainly are pricey at $150.00 plus.

I already have the Impala gaskets so it looks like I will just go that route. .003" one way or the other really does not seek to matter.

I read a few posts were a few claim they dont work well with aluminum heads, but then there are dozens of posts where people claim they have never had a problem.

Just to be safe I'd re-torque the heads after it's first heat cycle. Some gasket companies state to torque once and leave it, but I like to edge on the safe side.

I do agree that this is good advice.

However the ones uder the valve covers are cake, but would you remove the headers just to get to those seven bolts or so?

..the impala gaskets are designed for cast iron heads, but work well with aluminum also, it's just that the internal fire ring in the impala gaskets can brinel the aluminum head slightly around each cumbustion chamber......I would not re-torque them...you will just increase the brinneling effect and there is nothing to be gained from a re-torque

Joe,
Thanks for the information.

"Brinel" is now a new term in my vocabulary. What does this term mean as it relates to engine heads? Something like leaveing a ring like indentation?

Not nit-picking, but that would be .044 quench.
