Best Sounding Muffler???
Re: Best Sounding Muffler???
I have heard alot of F bod's with all types of mufflers, and it is truely up to you... try to look around and listen to different cars...personally i dont think the flowmaster sounds like a glass pack, i like the way it sounds and if it flows less by 3 horsepower i think it sounds so much better than Poorla and a few other companies. I also like the way the Loud mouth systems sound but nothing sounds better than the cheapest exhaust system of all..NO EXHAUST! just my .02 listen around see what floats your boat and go with it. Also Spin Tech mufflers sound Absolutely amazing and that will most likely be going on my Chevelle next week!
Re: Best Sounding Muffler???
Shoebox is right, thats like saying "what girl is the hottest". IMO Flowmaster sounds awesome! If all you are about is sound and your just buying a muffler and not a catback then get a flowmaster. I love my Magnaflow. Its a 3" complete catback stainless stell for $300 shipped. Thats less than half of Borla!
Re: Best Sounding Muffler???
The deepest sounding catback I have personally heard is the SLP 2OTL system. Once you get over the two pipes on the drivers side, it sounds mean. Get some headers and ORP, then you have one sweet sounding LT1!
Re: Best Sounding Muffler???
hes got a point......it is nice and deep ...i had it stock on my car....but i bought GMMG wanteed somthign different and not many ppl had...and other various reason s
Re: Best Sounding Muffler???
I wasn't looking to get a straight answer from anybody, just something like a general idea. I had pretty much narrowed my choices down to Hooker or Flowmaster before the last post, and I guess now I'm still between the two. I'm mainly going for sound right now. I don't feel the loss of a couple of horses will affect my decision too much.
just my .03
but there are also some companies out there not many people think about..such as the one on my car..its a complete system from the exhaust manifolds back..I beleive i have a 3.5" high-flo cat with 3" exhaust all the way out the rear of an Edlebrock..not many people have messed with the idea of Edlebrocks..but once you hear one i personally love it. Its deep and has a unique sound..i dont like sounding like the 100 other Lt1s and Ls1s in my area..and all over the net. Id agree with shoebox though, its ALL a matter of your personal prefference. It just like asking a poll on here...LT1 or LS1? Ground effects or no Ground effects? 'waste' money on a sound system or dont waste the money? 18" or 17" wheels..etc etc etc. The whole point of your choice is to make your car unique.. But i would look around, not just the most popular brands out there are necessarily the best..
plus..you may find other companies offering better prices to compete with the more expensive well known brands..yet they have the same flow and possibly better sound
A lot of online companies for exhaust are also putting actual sounds of their exhaust on certain cars availible to hear as well..good luck!
Your sound will change as you up your engine specs and if you get/have headers too.
Ihave a problem with long threads..my bad guys!

Re: Best Sounding Muffler???
when i used to have my hotcam with shorty headers my flowmaster exhaust sounded awesome, but when i switched to long tube headers i did not care for the sound as much, so i switched to a hooker exhaust it sounds awesome. i get compliments all the time on how good the car sounds.
Re: Best Sounding Muffler???
I had a Flowmaster 80series on my car for the first 5 months I owned it and it sounded ok, but kinda raspy and it got old fast. I bought my Hooker and it, to me, sounds so much smoother and louder under WOT and I also get compliments all the time on how good it sounds.

Re: Best Sounding Muffler???
I've had Flowmasters on several cars and love the trully unique sound they make. But on my 94 Z28 I installed a Borla system because I wanted to be able to adjust the sound. It was hands down the best choice I've ever made. The sound is trully awsome. It's mellow while cruising and turns to a very deep snarl under WOT. I LOVE IT!
