Best sounding exhaust for a S/C'd 383?
Best sounding exhaust for a S/C'd 383?
I just bought a 1995 Z28 with a 383 and a Vortech. The car has a sinlge 4 inch pipe for the exhaust. Not only is it Fugly but it sounds like poop as well. Anyone got some sound clips of their favorite exhaust set-up?
That's the rpoblem, there is no muffler. It goes from the headers to a single 4 inch pipe. Loud, and ***** f***in' obnoxious. I plan to replace it, but I'd like to hear some sound clips first.
I don't have any sound clips, but what kinda sound are you looking for... smooth? Old school style? As far as mufflers, here's what each one will sound like.
SMOOTH
Spintech
Magnaflow
Dynomax Bullet
OLD SCHOOL, ratty and choppy, but good
Flowmaster
Hooker
Dynomax Ultraflo
Borla
You get the idea.

To me, the best sounding car in the world is a stock C4. I really like the way they sound from behind. I'm not looking for something super loud, or radical sounding. I'd like to carry on a conversation at 75 mph without raising my voice.
I scavenged a MPP2 from my wrecked 99, so I can use that when I need to mean business!

The Dynomax bullet is not one I'd classify as "smooth".
With what you're saying, I'd go with the Ultra Flo, Magnaflow or Hooker. I'd classify the Hooker as a deeper sounding muffler, kinda quiet at idle and cruise speeds. Of course, the more power you put through something the louder it seems to get.

It is true that the more air you push through your pump the louder it is going to be. With as much hp as you should be making with your new toy you will need a little more muffler than most. True duals are one solution (then you have twice as much muffler). I think that with a good Spin tech or Flow master you should have decent results. I would think that staying with the 4 inch system would give more power, but since you have a cutout that wouldn't be as big of an issue.
Get ahold of me, I have some other solutions kicking around here that you might want to try.
