Best Rocker Arms & Push Rods

I was wondering what would be the best Rocker Arms and Push Rods for a LE2 cylinder head. Looking for good parts but not to break the bank aka spending $400+ on a set of rr is kinda getting pricey. What are other LE2 setup guys running? I been told that for the lifters to get the oem replacements cause the comp R's suck.

Re: Best Rocker Arms & Push Rods

Comp Cam Pro Magnum 1.6 roller rockers. Get 7/16" and replace your studs while your at it. Stock studs are 7/16" on the bottom and 3/8" on the top. So swapping them for 7/16" studs is as simple as unscrewing the old ones and torqueing the new ones down.

When you go to Pro Mags, they are NSA ( Much better design, NSA ...) and will need guide plates. Either get the ISKY adjustable ones, or the GMPP Guide Plates.

And with Guide Plates you will need hardend push rods. The best would likely be Comp Hi Techs as they are a one piece design and are a very solid product. If you are getting a LE set up though, you might want to hold off on the push rods until you get it assembled and can check the installed push rod length you will need. Stock length is 7.2" but you may need shorter than stock push rods if the heads are milled significantly. Talk to Bret Bauer or LE and see if they know if you can run stock length push rods using their heads ( Assuming they wont need milled any more than they would already be machined down for the head work. Also, this is assuming stock block hieght.)

As for the lifters, Comp R's are problematic. Either use factory replacements, or chip out the cash and get Morel lifters. These are some of the best hydraulic lifters you can buy but they are pricey at a little over $400 I believe, I forget exactly what they cost now.

In my honest opinion, if you are replacing the lifters for a LE2 cam, I would for sure get the Morels. You dont want to have a lifter cause you a blown motor. Look at the heachache it put Javier through. Spend the extra money and get the good lifters for it.

Hope that helps.

Also, Pro Mags, they come with poly locks so you wont need to order them seperatly.

Dude got you covered right there... 4130 1 piece pushrods at a minimum and Pro Mag's are always what I recomend.

Just wanted to chime in and say that my failure wasn't lifter related.. even though my lifters spun in the bore, my rocker arms appeared to have been the point of failure.

Loose rockers = bouncing lifters.. no matter what kinda lifters you have.

That being said, I'm still running the comp 850-16 lifters with my new motor, I've just paid very careful attention to the polylocks this time and tightened the living **** out of them.

Re: Best Rocker Arms & Push Rods

^ - Sorry about that ... my bad. I guess I forgot about that or missed it somewhere following your thread.

You need to make another video once you get that beast back on the road. I still catch myself watching your "break in" video more often than is normal while I sit here wishing I had enough money to get a another beater truck, AND build my motor ... At this point I have the $$$ for one, but can't go without a vehicle ... It will be done by winter though ... I hope.

lol.. np dude

and don't worry on the video.. while my car was down i watched it quite a bit myself to stay sane.

Even though I'm short shifting this setup right now, I should have vids soon. She's already back on the road as of yesterday.. running decent, some bugs to work out as with any 100% new build.

SStrokerAce the part number you give for the pushrods doesnt exist. Was wondering if you guys could give me the part number to Comp Hi Tech. Also since there may be a clearance issue was wondering what pushrods :Javier97Z28 is running. Since he is running a LE Setup or anyone else that running a LE2 setup they could answer that clearance issue.

Comp's catalog is on-line at www.compcams.com and is quite informative.

The "4130" Bret referred to is the chrome moly alloy that the High Tech pushrods are made of, not the part no.

Re: Best Rocker Arms & Push Rods

I'm running 7.05" Hi-Tech Comps.

My block is zero decked and heads are of course milled by LE, I'm running comp 850-16 lifters (cup height is shorter than stock, requiring different pushrods as it is). I found 7.05 to be the best combo for my setup, but everyone should check their own pushrod length for peace of mind and proper operation.

Re: Best Rocker Arms & Push Rods

LT4's actually used a metric stud ... They all run a 7/16" bottom. Then a stock LT1 stud is 3/8" on the top half. A stock LT4 stud is like 13MM or something like that on the top half. Buy Comp or ARP studs. My Comp Hi-Techs are actually stamped ARP so go with whichever you can get a better price on.

Re: Best Rocker Arms & Push Rods

does anybody know what length pushrods i would need for my LE2 setup? the heads has been milled by what lloyd does, and the block is stock height(not decked or anything)

think the stock 1's will be ok or do i have to get another size because of the milling.
