Best porting gains with an LT1 intake?

I'm converting an LT1 intake for use on my GTA, what are the best places to start porting the LT1 intake for the most gains? I've already ported the hell out of my TPI setup, but don't really know where the best place to start might be on the LT1.

Are there any places that I should avoid touching because of thin casting, or making for turbulence?

I assume that the transition from the plenum to the runners would be a good place to smooth out, and that polishing the intake runners would probably also provide some nice gains. I don't intend to hog out the intake, but rather want to get rid of casting defects.

When I had my heads ported by Loyd he said a ported intake was only worth like 5-10 HP max. Wasn't worth it to me. In your case it would probably be easier to just install a mini ram.

If you're up to it, weld above the injector bungs so that you can remove the "ski jump" and straighten the port out. I've heard this makes the most difference as far easily accessible porting techniques.

The question is why NOT port it if its off the car. And I already have the intake and it converted. If I wanted a mini-ram I would have paid fro the mini-ram. But the LT1 intake will work just find for what I want, and won't cost me an arm and a leg.

Certainly there must be something to gain by getting rid of the casting flash and smoothing the transitions from plenum to runners.

As far as the welding? That is something I'd prefer not to get into as I don't have access, or the skill nessesary to weld aluminum. Nor do I know someone who can weld aluminum for a 12pack.
