Best plug wires?

Any opinions on the best plug wires out there? Need some good ones that are heat resistant since my last set ($70.00 Beldens) didn't last 8 months. They are as far away from the headers as possible, all the looms and fasteners are still in place and yet they are arching right at the plug boot. I am guessing that the heat from the headers just cooked the boots. Anyone use any kind of heat wrap on their wires to prevent that?

Re: Best plug wires?

I think Taylor makes the best wires. I've used their 8mm spiro pros on many of my cars, and plan on using their .409 race wires on this camaro.

They also offer heat shields for their boots and wraps for their wires. Look into them.

Re: Best plug wires?

Anyone ever use the Accel Spiro 9000 wires? Says they have heat resistance to 1000 degrees with heat reflective boots. I noticed the Taylors said heat resistant to 600 degrees, although I have heard nothing but good things about them. Just trying to gather as many opinions as possible.

Nothing wrong with stock wires. I use them with some heat resistant "boots" near the headers.

I 2nd the Taylor Spiro Pro's. I have them on 3/4 of my LT1's and think they're great, especially for the price.

i'll be the first to say that the taylor spiro pro's didnt last for me. i could get about 8 months and the boot would be fried. i have since switched to the accel extreme heat 9000's and like them alot better.

I think they are like Blue Max or something. I have a set on my Firebird and I like them.

I use the Accel Extreme 9000 Heat Reflective Wires routed stock. I'd recommend them as well as stockers any day.

Re: Best plug wires?

I vote for MSD wires. I used taylors before, and besides them being a pita to put the boots on, they weren't bad for me. But i have a friend that had serious arching problems with them. It seems like taylors are hit and miss. But I know of 4 cars with MSD's on them, mine and 3 of my buddies, we all love them.

Re: Best plug wires?

I actually bought a set of the MSD's and couldn't get the boot protectors on them to save my ***. I really wanted to use the boot protectors since that is where my wires were failing so I just got an OEM set of beldens and used the boot protectors on them. The MSD's that I bought were the 8.5mm type...any tips on getting the Taylor boot protectors on them without destroying the wire or the protector? I'm open to suggestions. Also, those that have used the Accel 9000's...do they hold up to the heat from headers pretty good without boot protectors? Thanks for the info guys.

Re: Best plug wires?

i like my MSD superconductors, had wire #5 arch to the header less the 1,000 miles after the install but i called MSD and they had a new at my door in 3 days free. great costomer service no hasseling or anything just called and told them i had fairly new wires and one was arching and that was that.

Re: Best plug wires?

I'm a big fan of the Accel 9000s...very good wire with a very good heat protector on the boots...BUT I have always had heat problems with my LPE shorty headers...6 months ago I installed an over the valve cover kit which I pieced together thru Summit (I since realized that you can get the kit thru Thunder...dohhh). I used the Taylor Spiro Pros and I bought the fire boot covers...I only had a concern with the #5 wire so I only used 1 of the heat boots..What a great set up!! No heat issues at all, and once you get the hang of slipping on the boots (LOTS of silicone spray..) the install goes pretty quick...Plus it looks great, too. I used the black looms and black wire...some even would say it looks factory...very slick set up...

Doing it again I might've ordered the Accel 9000 universal kit with the Taylor opti ends (since they are both 8mm, they would work fine) only because I know the durability of the Accel wires...

imho if you have headers this is the way to go...

I have the Extreme 9000's also. They have been on the car almost 3 years with no problems.
