Best Place to Purchase 383 SHortblock

As it says where is the cheapest yet best place to get a forged 383 shortblock? Just need machining and rotating assembly...no cam or anything valvetrain related though

A short block also consists of the "block" as well. If this is what your looking for, contact Golen.

You could also try Nu-tek. They actually have a web site.

golen's LT1 383 shortblock uses and iron crank, and hypereutectic pistons............thats a waste of money.........if youre gonna build a 383, might as well get all forged for another $500 or so.

maybe golen's would substitute better parts and charge more, youd have to call them and find out.

Don't see how you can apply the term "cheap" to an engine, especially one with a forged bottom end. They usually start around $4000 and only get less cheap.

ya know if you click on the options in the shortblock you can get forged pistons and stuff . I wonder if you can order the shortblock minus a cam and timing chain and stuff since I got the lt4 stuff. Hmmmm......

A second vote for Bret Bauer www.bauer-racing.com

But the term "cheap" needs a response. The parts are the main cost, they cost every builder about the same. They can be seen as a "fixed cost". The variable cost is the labor. Do you really want to skrimp on the quality of the assembly when you have already paid a good buck for parts? I'm not suggest you need to call Lingenfelter or Jim Oddy's shop to have a short block built. But don't go for the lowest price, there really are no shortcuts that don't compromise quality.

what I meant was the best work for the money not necessarily the cheapest but the best bang for the buck

Take a look over at cmotorsports.com, their engine assembly sectoin of their web page is working. Several shortblock selections depending on the parts you want. I think a forged 383 assembly starts at $1800+.
