Best place to get long block LT1
Best place to get long block LT1
If no one buys my car by March I may end up buying an engine for my 97 Camaro.I am looking at under $2,500 at the most. Be nice to even get a used one near CT.
Re: Best place to get long block LT1
on ebay, there is an engine builder with the screen name of 1951herb. i bought my lt1 383 stroker from him. engine was/is great (although my car has some problems). it came as a complete long block hand built by him. think i paid something like 2300 for it and 300-400 for freight shipping. and i had some trouble installing it in my car, so herb allowed me to call him personally and ask questions. was a great guy and very helpful. ill post a link of a similar engine that he currently has listed on ebay.

Re: Best place to get long block LT1
i was just lookin at reviews for it and theres alot of good and bad reviews about the motors lasting and trouble gettin them fixed under warranty when broken. its kinda 50/50so far but it makes it tough 2 decide whether or not 2 giv it a shot. also have 2 consider that alot of people may not even give reviews whether they get a good/bad product.
Re: Best place to get long block LT1
My newphew had a 96 z28 that he bought, had for about 500 miles,it blew a radiator hose had it towed to the dealer and they told him the motor was shot,so he had bought a warranty from the dealer he bought the car from, that did not work out so good, they refunded his money and he had to buy a motor from the dealer for 6000.00 plus labor to install it..So I dont think that GM sells long blocks for 2500.00..

I don't know about new, but you can get a rebuilt one from Marshall Engines for about $1600-$1750 with shipping included.

Re: Best place to get long block LT1
Go to the junkyard at get one. Shouldn't be more than $300 for a complete engine. Rip it apart and clean everything. Get the crank turned .010"/.010" or more if it needs it. Check the cylinders. If you still see cross hatching and their isn't a ridge at the top, leave them alone. Put new bearings in and a new oil pump (stock volume). Send the heads to a machine shop for a valve job and new guides. If you don't have to bore/hone the engine and you do the assembly, you could have a good running motor for well under $1500. A gasket kit is around $150, bearings will be $100.
