Best place to buy short block???
Best place to buy short block???
Hey guys it's me agian...lol. Where is the best place to buy a short block? I want to do a 396 LT1 Stroker motor, but I don't want to get screwed over agian by a place like Nu-Tek. I have also heard that Agostino racing has gone to hell and Golen engine service sucks, so where can I buy from? Isn't there anybody out there trustworthy? I heard from Chris Gelineau at Automotive Performance, has anybody heard good things about them or had personal experience with them? Any info on a good place to purchase a short block would be greatly appreciated, thanks for all your help guys.

Whatever you do not buy an engine from Recon. They are *******, excuse my language. The motor in my car right now is from Recon and i have about 20 miles on it and it runs like ****, not enough oil pressure to get oil to valve covers and the lifters are not pumping up. Now I have a mechanic and Advanced Auto on the phone with them bc they dont want to stand up to there warranty. They are rude and do not want to fix there mistakes. Plus they sent me the wrong engine 2 times before i got the right one. I know you wanted to know who to get one from but i wanted to give you this info before you considered them.
Do yourself a favor and get a used shortblock and hve the work done by a reputable local machine shop.....that way you can keep an eye on the progress. Get a solid quote and pay no more than 1/2 up front which should cover parts . Make sure they will warranty there workmanship. This is what I did and seeing the horror stories like Nu-Tec makes me very glad I did.
The only thing I would do different is supply the parts myself , because I kept getting the run around on not being able to get the engine completed in the time frame disscussed due to "parts arnt here yet" BS.

Absolutely what he said!
I would sugest someone local to you, that way if it isn't right/they are taking their time, you can surprise them, and stop on by...
Plus you don't play the shipping the motor back and forth game if they screw it up.
Make sure to ask them for references of people they have done jobs for... Ask around at the local track, and car people hang outs too.
Check out AP Engineering. Good prices, great guys to work with. Give them a call.

I agree with the suggestion about using someone local. But unless you know exactly what you are doing, you are often better off having the shop order the parts. Also, many places will not warranty a motor with customer supplied parts.
