Best Place For A Brand New LT1?

http://www.golenengineservice.com/html/lt1_lt4.html

i'm in the market for a new LT1 since mine is getting up there on miles. i found this website that sells new engines and i was thinking about either the 350 or 383 LT1, the first one and two on the link. is there any other places with better prices? or do these guys do the best work? also would the engine just be plug and play? and will my existing mods just switch right over to the new motor? (headers back exhaust, intake)

and also any feedback from people who have ordered from them

thanks

You could also talk to the victory racing engine guys. I beleive their link is in the supporting vendor index.

With a long block youl'l be able to use your existing intake and exhaust. If you wanted to get a LE port job you could get a shortblock instead and then use your existing heads. Golen does a great job of building engines. You will need to get an neutral balanced flywheel if your car is a m6. it includes lifters rods and rockers. From what I can see the 383 would be a very streetable engine and you wouldn't regret buying it plus the weight reduction in your wallet should help get down your quarter mile times.

Golen builds nice engines. Victory has a good feedback as well and are very reasonably priced.

thanks for the other website i'll check them out also

but say i get the 383 with "400hp" what do you think that would already run in the 1/4 mile? then my headers and catback and intake would add on to the 400 making it around 430? just seeing if i understand that right

It probably makes 400hp with supporting mods.... A 383 moves more air so its gonna need the Coldair intake and headers and exhaust anyway if you want to make decent power from it.

I have a Golen 383 short block I bought last winter. Have almost 10k miles on it now and it runs great. Chad at Golen is a great guy to deal with also.

The only problem I'm having from my Golen is loss of traction

An engine builder you may not have thought of is Jasper Engines. They
have 2 levels of LT1 power, stock and upgraded cam and computer tune.
I've had my '96 back on the road for about 2 months now, the only
problems I've had are sensor issues. The car sat for about 1 1/2 years
from the time it let go to new engine fireup.
It's got an CAI, Jasper LT1 and flowmaster catback. I expect it to
run a 12.99 next time to the strip, I'll be happy to post my time. Right
now I'm thinking about meeting Car Craft on the anti tour up in Vegas
in late April.
Before the rebuilt LT1, it ran 13.10 @ 101 mph. I just really like
the idea of having a 12 second street car.

13.10 @ 101 mph? Is that correct? Any other info on that run?

I have a Golen 396 stroker short-block and I couldn't be more happy with both the performance and workmanship! Chad is also a very professional person to deal with.

Yep, first of all I could'nt duplicate it. It was a 60 degree or so night,
some humidity too. And, I cut a .501 light. I have not cut that
good of a light again yet either. One thing I would like to say is what is
the deal with the timeslip printers at the drags ? At Speed World where
I made that run in my Camaro and at Firebird you can just barely read
the slips !
There is no way you could copy, scan or fax it, too damn light.
When I get that first 12 second slip, I want it framed !

If you haven't checked out Golens web page lately, here's an update. You can purchase an engine with Lloyd Elliotts heads on it. I don't know about the rest of you, but I think that says alot about Lloyds heads. I've heard good things about Golen shortblocks (same with VRE).

Seems like a low mph for the et - that's why I was asking about the other details of the run (i.e. 60-foot, 1/8 mile mph & time). You do know your RT has nothing to do with the et right? A .501 light is awesome! They give away prizes and money at our track for best RT of the night - there's a guy here who cuts an average .510 and needless to say, he out-trees most of us consistently.

As far as engine (short or long block) choices, I'd call up Eric at VRE personally if you don't have a reputable builder in your area.
