Best Performance for less than $300

Hello,

I have a 1994 Camaro Z28 that I would like to put some performance parts on. I am graduating from high school and my graduation presesnt was the car and I plan to get some money from relatives. It has SLP Loudmouth Cat-back exhaust and SLP Cold air induction on it. I would still enjoy putting more stuff on it and i was wondering what you guys recommend , but i would like to keep the budget under $300 dollars.

Thanks,
Kyle

ususally 2.73's sometimes you get one that got the 3.23 option.

Envok I am assuming your car is an auto? Check what gears you have by looking at the shifter console. If it goes 1-2-d-od-n-r-p then you have 3.23's if it goes 2-d-od-n-r-p then you have 2.73's. With $300 you can find a good set of used headers and get some gaskets and bolts for about $300. I have a set of used edelbrock ones on the way for $200, and gaskets and bolts for $60. And enough money left over to drive her for a few days non-stop listening to the car with the headers on . But if you don't want to change the headers because you don't want to use up all that time or you don't think you could do it yourself maybe you should get some 1.6 rr's and lt4 valve springs. It is hard considering it is $300 and you have a few bolt-ons already. You could do gears but I think with install price it would put you over $300. You could do a few little things also. Like I got an electronic shift kit for $25 shipped used. And I got a pulley for like $60 brand new. You could get a 160* stat and a manual fan switch. It is all up to you. I did a coil, 160* stat, shift kit, pulley, and ported maf ends, and airfoil for less then $300 so you could also get a manual fan switch too if you work it right but like I had said these aren't going to be a big gain you will tell the difference if you do them all together but not a difference seperately. These are more to make your car run better then to net you big performance numbers. So I say either these littler mods or headers.

Tuning! A lot of people are seeing 10-15rwhp from a simple retune of their stock programming. And you can get that for way less than $300. A cutout is another cheap mod worth 10rwhp at least.

Tunning would be another idea but I don't believe it will get you near a gain as headers would because you have nothing to tune it for. A cutout also wouldn't give you that much because you already have a cat-back.

If you care about how your car handles, get SFCs. Around 150 shipped for them is what I'd look for. Around 50+ to install or so if you don't have a welder. Couple it with the tune like Patman suggested, IMO. Pick-up a LT4 knock module also, if you're 94+. 160' thermostat is cheap, good buy, although not much of a performance one.

And you will very likely want to change your catback before you get headers. Search for "loudmouth" and you'll see why.

With 300, depends if you want to go suspension or motor.

Motor, this is what I would do:

1.6 Roller rockers, can get the aluminum proform 1.6 roller rockers off ebay for 159.99.

Madz28 Tune for $80. Orrrrrr 80 bucks for a cable or build your own for 30 bucks and order his unlimited e-mail tune for $60. Tuner cat is free for 30 days, download the trial and have someone hook you up with the definiition file. Either way thats roughly $90 bucks, leaves you with about $40 left over and you gain about 30 rwhp from both applications.

Suspension:

Subframe connectors and Lower control arm relocation. Im sure you can find a good deal on ebay for the subframes and have some left over for the install.

Uhhh if I recall correctly someone did a dyno test and got 13-17 rwhp out of them on a stock vehicle, your increasing the lift by .30 with 1.6's.

let me guess, that LT1 Corvette? it's been done, but I wouldn't purchase them expecting such a gain...

as for the LT4 knock module, just program the knock out...no point in getting an LT4 knock mod...

yeh i'd doubt you'd see that much out of rockers on a stock car too.and if i do recall u need new valve covers with 1.7's.

If u find out u have 2.73 gears you have to get rid of them! the install though would cost u. Gears need to be put in correctly or they can fail on u or make a lot of noise.. Stick with OEM gears too.

I saw big gains from headers... but for 300 bucks u can only afford shorties. used ones.

sway bars or LS1 brakes are more fun then headers though.
