best perf. catback exhaust

what is the best cat back exhaust (minus the 800 someodd dollar borla) in terms of performance and sound for a 1994 z28. i was told and have read on here magnaflow is very good for your money, i just read a post about how good hooker cb was for your money, which exhaust do you feel would be the best.

hooker and magnalfow are very good exhausts for the money. i went with magnaflow since it is stainless. i dont believe the hooker is which means it could possibly rust out over time. plus, you can get the magnaflow cb on ebay for 280 shipped brand new. pm me if you want to know about it.

Re: best perf. catback exhaust

This has been beaten to death, but since im here, i might as well throw my opinion in. I would put the hooker, magnaflow, loud mouth, and gmmg up for the best cat backs. That pretty much goes all over the price range, and between stainless and aluminized steel. I would assume the loud mouth flows the best, simply because theres not much there. But why spend the money on a cat back if your not getting anything special. The gmmg sounds the best, and many would agree, but is pretty expensive, and easily custom fabricated for half the price. The magnaflow is cheap, and stainless. With the hooker being just cheap, and sounds decent. Some people think that stainless is the way and only way to go, thats their opinion. I think the regular old exhaust does a pretty good job of holding up. We have a 93 s10 and just replaced the factory installed exhaust because of rust at 207,000 miles. Not to bad...

I installed the Magnaflow catback not too long ago to replace the 4 year old Edelbrock system that was on there. The Edelbrock was already starting to rust pretty good in its short span so I opted for a affordable stainless system this time around.

yea, stainless is nice but if you ever decide to do long tubes or a cut out it would be a pita to weld it. I choped up my hooker 3 times to put the headers/y-pipe on and the cutout in 2 diff spots, lol. I would have to go with the hooker for sure, its cheap and is going to last at least 5 years, prolly longer in the south.

I'm a big fan of the Hooker Catback as well, I've known some people who run it, it sounds great, is affordable, and flows pretty well. Throw some LT's on there and you have a nice affordable exhaust system that's going to last 4-7 years or so. I plan on running Pacesetter Coated LT's, ORY, and Hooker Catback. Once I get my car fixed I will be ordering

Re: best perf. catback exhaust

My 95 Z has had no money spared, and it has the borla. I also have a 94 Formula, wich is more of my daily driver with cheap bolt on's, and I elected to go with the Magnaflow cat back. It really is the best buy in terms of power and money, plus I really enjoy the sound it has, nothing obnoxious, just a good tone. The SLP loudmouth is about the same for the money, but it is really loud. It just depends in my opinion at that point what your looking for. If all that is still too much price wise, and you don't care about rust, then I would go with the Hooker setup. Again, its just a matter of how much you want to spend and what kind of sound your looking for. Power wise, I really don't think theres a noticable difference between most of the middle class exhaust range.

Obviously its hard for me to put words on it and I don't have an old sound clip, but it did have a nice throaty rumble to it. I preferred the sound much more over my current Magnaflow CB but it just wasn't as durable.

as usual, most everyone forgets the silent master of them all: B&B Triflow.

smoothest, deepest burble at idle and racecar notes at high rpm. if you want the best you gotta pay for it.
