Well it DOES throw the rotor around into a hundred pieces! That happened to me when I was racing a '04 Cobra. From a roll, I got a HUGE launch on him and it was taking more time than I thought for him to catch up (with over 400HP he has!). Then at 85MPH...the engine dies. The rotor had literally disintegrated! How embarrassing! The cobra owner and I are good friend s now! LOL

Re: Best Optispark Replacement??

I think mine is simply old and worn out. My car doesnt die or anything like that. When im WOT, once it gets up there around 4600, it hesitates for very short rapid instances, causing small jerks in motion. So, thats whats led me to believe it needs replaced. I know people say you can do this, and that, or clean it. Id rather just buy a new opti, unbolt the old, and stick on the new.

I agree with this 100%. But it seems to be hit or miss with opti's. Some people replace the whole unit and never have a problems, other people like myself, replaced the whole unit once and repeatedly had the cap and rotor go out on me....so I went with the Delteq and have never been happier and have never looked back. And about the MSD opti.....kinda makes you wonder, what exactly is the hold up? After all this wait, I would be reluctant to buy one if they were made available today.

So, how does Delteq work? I know its like what the LS1 engines have...but what is involved to install it, cost, and all that good stuff??
Luckly, to this point, its been a hit for me and my opti. Its the stock unit pushing 112,000. But I would like to learn more about Delteq.

Esp if your already taking the Water Pump off. The opti is right there, and being a '95, im sure your car has some miles on it.
It has under 76k on it. I just called and got a $255 + shipping($8-10) price tag from Jason Cromer. Looks like I'll be getting that and then in a few weeks I'll try to pick up a Delteq.... hopefully.

The Delteq pretty much just removes the spark from the opti itself. It converts the car over to a coil-pack system found in the northstar cadilliac engines. Four coil-packs mount either over the driver's side valve covers or under the radiator and provide the spark to the cylinders. The system still relies on the optical pick up portion of the opti in order for the car to have timing and run. However, most people agree that the main inherent problems of the opti are found within the poor cap/rotor design and construction. Most of the time when you develop a miss or whatnot, its the cap/rotor that went out on ya. If the optical pick up goes bad, the car wont run. When My opti went out it was the optical pick up and not the cap/rotor. However, after I replaced the entire opti, 2 months later my cap/rotor went out. Figuring the optical pickup was good since the opti was brand new, I researched the Delteq/LTCC route and went with it the Delteq. I decided to go with the Delteq because it is a complete kit with everything you need for a quick and easy installation. It took my only a few hours, 3 i think to install mine. It isn't hard at all. The system if around 700 dollars I believe. As I said before, the Delteq is not for everyone, it all depends on what kind of trouble you are having. If something is killing the optical part of your opti, the delteq would not be a wise purchase. But for the majority of us, it gives an alternative to the continual replacement of opti cap/rotors. More info can be found at their website www.delteq.com I've been running this system since October with no problems, and customer service was great.

Re: Best Optispark Replacement??

I would go with a GM opti.... if it lasted for 100K+ another one should last this long too..... Whatever you do: DO NOT get a reamnufactured one from Autozone, O' Reily, etc..... Have heard tooo many horror stories about them....

Well if you're getting rid of your opti would you mind shipping it to me if I payed for the shipping? I'm messing around with some opti's right now seeing If I can improve there longevity.

Re: Best Optispark Replacement??

Ive used the reman optisparks on a few cars and i have never had a problem besides they come with a lifetime warranty from autozone and are only 120 dollars. how can you beat that? Not to mention with the money you save on the opti save it and start getting the stuff together for a ltcc or delteq. I have the LTCC on my car and I LOVE IT. the LTCC isnt as complete of a kit as the delteq but the ltcc has better features.
