I have a 174K mile '95 Roadmaster wagon in my driveway I just got it a month ago no oil burning and just a drip or two from the oil cooler lines by the radiator when the temp dropped below zero out(common for any GM with a cooler like that). All 70K on a motor without issues means is it is normal, it is not your oil selection that has caused that it, is a well constructed motor. This is not the '70s where 100K was a lot of miles and you might start having troubles at 70K. I guarantee you that under a doolar a quart Walmart brand oil would get you to 70K without any issue whatsoever as long as it was changed at reasonable intervals.
Also seems to me that a lot of they guys that end up complaining about low oil pressure and the like were using M1 5w-30, but I have not really kept records of the data posted so that is as scientific as your "works well for me" statement.

 

Not really sure what you are getting at with the german motors statement, but obviously you dont like to research things or dont like to listen to what lab results have time and again stated. Because if you liked to do either of those things, you would realize that German Castrol shows the LEAST amount of wear on an engine for a given oil change interval. Mobil 1 5W-30 is not the best oil. Its better than conventional, but certainly not better than the German Castrol. The Mobil 1 40 weight oils are better than the 30's.

 

Think about it. German Castrol, developed in Germany for a high tech German motor. How hard is it to make the connection. And unlike you, I have a life and can't waste hours researching the minute differances in each oil. Like I said, Mobil 1 will be just fine if you cant find this superior Castrol German oil at your local wal-mart.

Oil specs for U.S. cars exported are different than specs for cars that stay here you know why? CAFE CAFE CAFE nothing to do with what the motor needs or likes. If you don't have hours to "waste" doing research then I would ask you save some of your time and not spread ignorance either.

When cars are used in different regions they get different oil recommendations with the same exact motor, in Europe they spec 0w-40 for the LT1.

 

Well, it looks like we got another closet case on our hands that can sit for hours upon end in a dark basement and look up reasearch on oil or whatever those links were (because i didnt have time to look at them) (text deleted by moderator). Of course differant conditions will call for differant weights of oil, but the standard weight oil is 5W-30. You can deviate from the standards.

If GM is 100% right on how your car should be put together and maintained then I suggest you return it to stock I see a lot of stuff the general didn't put there, and stop wasting your precious time on this thread.

That is for an LS1 so not directly applicable, and the wear numbers are high they say so repeatedly, the oil held up noone said it was bad oil, the wear numbers prove it is not right for this engine(being the LS1 for that study). The LS1 does seem to like the same oils as the LT1 though.

 

The question is, what is acceptable?

Iron is a little higher on the Castrol than the comparable Mobil 1 5W30. The lead and copper numbers are better with the Castrol than the Mobil 1. A lot of the other elements go back and forth too as to which is best.

If the numbers showed a huge difference between the two oils, I might switch, but I don't see enough of a difference to sway me.

The one UOA I posted does not make a trend and does not take different motors or drivers into account and like I said that was for an LS1 too. I am also not saying M1 is a bad oil just that if you want to use it try the 0w-40 as the UOAs have shown it to be a better match to the LT1, just grabbing the next bottle over on the shelf.

 

I just recently switched to the German Castrol 0w-30 after reading all of the positive things said about it and the good oil analysis I have read. I plan to send off for my own oil analysis after using it for a while. I have 104,000 miles on my car and I noticed an increase in oil pressure in my car over the Mobil 5w-30 that I ran for about 10-12,000 miles before. This increase was slight just around 5 psi at idle and cruising speeds. Anyway I have been pleased with the oil so far, plus it looks cool as hell...
