Best lifters, rockers for 396 LT1
Re: Best lifters, rockers for 396 LT1
Crane makes some great lifters...but there expensive. I would stay away from the comp-r's. I've used them before and they arent worth the headache. I didnt break any clips but was constantly messing with the valves.

Comp "R" are junk. Your stock ones are fine if they are in good shape.
RR's are your choice. Unless ya are running a nasty mech roller, all but the "bargain basement" price brands will do.Either aluminum or stainless depending on your budget.

I used to run Comp R lifters, Comp Hi Tech pushrods, and Comp Aluminum RR's with a 3/8 stud. After I busted a clip off of one of the Comp R's, I upgraded to Morel lifters, Jesel pushrods, and Jesel SS shaft rockers. This was by far the best money I have spent on my motor. Valvetrain is A LOT quieter, and the motor feels much stronger in the upper RPM range. Your valvetrain is one area you should never skimp out on.

Hey the Morels that i ordered from thunderracing.com didnt come with that crossbar setup. They also just came in a white box with morel written with a sharpy on the top of the box. Is this normal?
Re: Best lifters, rockers for 396 LT1
I will agree on the Morel, I just bought a set and I've spoken with bret and Erik Koenig over at HPE and both highly recommend them. They will survive what most people could ever throw at it.
Pro Mag NSA with a 7/16" stud should be more than enough with an adjustble guide palte so you can ensure the valvetrain geometry is set and the rocker is squarely on the valve stem.

Morel's on average from either Bret, or thunder racing are in the 450.00 range. Some people may have them less, but again its random. But if you want morel's expect to be in that range unless otherwise notified.
Re: Best lifters, rockers for 396 LT1
anybody use a hydraulic roller cam with hydraulic roller springs and solid roller lifters?
i've seen a few setups lately where guys have been doing this with very good results (some goofy Buick V6 guys
). no lifter pump up, easy valve adjustment. and no slack in the valvetrain
