Best header for LT1???

Just bought a '97 WS6 TA . I read the thread about Pacesetter vs Hooker. My question is about the set by Arizona Speed and Marine. How do they compare with the other two brands? Also, I was told that I shouldn't buy the long tubes because of ground clearance. Is this an issue? Someone also advised me to go on the classifieds section on this site but can't locate it. Any help???? All replies and advice are appreciated.

I heard that AS&M headers are good but don't really know much about them. I have Pacesetters on my car and love them. Ground clearance is great and so is plug access. The welds and ceramic coating are good also. For the price I would say go with Pacesetters.

The AS&M's are mid-lengths, and are capable of supporting some fairly serious HP. I run a modified set on my 800HP nitroused stroker. I bought them used from a buddy that was running 9's with a 4,000# 30th SS convertible.

It comes down to a few issues:

-if you have to meet any sort of visual emissions, long tubes may be a problem, since they relocate the cats. On the other hand, even the AS&M mid-lengths will not solve that problem on a dual-cat car like your 97, IF you have to pass a visual.

-lowered cars sometimes have problems due to losing ground clearance with the long tubes.

I've tried looking around a bit for AS&Ms (new)... but no luck. Can you recommend a dealer?

Check out our Supporting Vendors.... pretty sure T. Byrne Motorsports sells them. Thunder Racing also.

I have the RK'sport headers, yes they are 98% identical to the AS&M's for a lot less.
Thr RK's have a bigger oval port opening where the AS&m' have a d-shaped opening. The #8 primaries are a tad different and thats about it.

Great headers but they are a MF to install, so are the AS&M's. Bolt and plug access is horrible on the passenger side for both. They perform very well, and I would reccomend them but be advised that it will take time, patience and creativity to get them on correctly.

I posted man in depth article and the tricks of the install somewhere, try a search.

Thanks for all the advice guys.....and gals. Looks like I'll be taking a look at the pacesetters. A little cheaper but functional. I'm not trying to run class in NHRA so I don"t need every last thousandth out of the car. As for the computer tune, I'll give Thunder Racing a shot at it. They're only about an hour from the house and have an excellent rep in the area. They're also having a "track day" on Nov. 5th at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, La. Look for some heavy hitters to show up and have fun. I'll bring the TA out and see what she runs in stock trim (low 14's - high 13's...hopefully). All ready spoke to them about a Vigilante converter. Just need to get the coins lined up.....as a lot of you know.
