I searched and found a lot of people like the Fel-Pro 1406. When I go to Jeg's site, it lists the 1406 for: D-Shape (Brodix Track 1) Port Size: 1.55'' x 1.63'' . The correct gasket for the LT1/LT4 is the 1470.

Here are my questions:

What is the best gasket - if not Fel-Pro then which other brand?

Why the 1406 and not the 1470?

 

I swapped my stock replacements with a set of the Felpro 1406 today actually. Definitely a better gasket... the best?.. that I cant say. 1406 is what everyone uses and they fit LT1s just fine so Im not sure where the 1470 number comes from. You can also get them from just about any parts store. I happened to go to advanced auto but i know autozone can get them too... and you get them the next day.

 

When i got my Mac headers, this board said that the stock GM metal gaskets was just as good as any---But that was then, opinions change weekly on what mod, cold air intake, exhaust or gasket to get.

 

Earl's Pressure Master Header Gaskets! Hands down the best header gasket ever! You can get then from summit for like 38 bucks. Great sealing and are reusable with new inserts.

When i ordered the "Head Swap Kit" from ThunderRacing the felpro 1406 headers gaskets came in the package. I'm assuming they work, I have yet to put them on. I looked up the P/N here on cz, looks to be the highest voted for.

 

what about the copper gaskets by Mr Gasket #7154?

The 1406 can work well on some headers, though not others. The D ports are a bit large, in some areas of the header seal, it can leak. I've seen this first hand on some header manufactures flange.

Actually a very good seal can be obtained by the round couterpart felpro's. As long as it is not obstructing the air flow of the head, you'll be fine. If you ported the exhaust head, you can trim the gasket.

The round ports work much better in most situations in my opinion.

 

Anyone else use these? I am leaning towards these gaskets.

I use the 1406's with jet hot longtubes and my ported lt1 heads.

 

my copper one is leaking, so if that tells you anything the bolts are also stripped that probably has something to do with it but...
