Best head gasket for 401ci lt1 ?

Its a 4.040 bore
I have been useing the fel-pro`s 1074 for the last few years and no problems but i noticed alot of guys useing the Cometic Head Gaskets and noticed there twice as exspensive. What makes them better if they are ?? Right now i`m right about 12:3 compression with the .039 felpro`s and the Cometic Head Gaskets are .027.
What would you guys use ?
I`m useing afr 220 heads etc etc with a nx maf system and i just bought the 2nd stage for that system so i might hit it with a 200-300 shot every now and then ?

Here`s a couple pics of my project

401ci with a 4.04 bore? That would mean a 3.91" crank?? 4.04 bore with a 3.875" crank gives a 397ci.

Cometic also has a different bore size, 1074 is a 4.125 bore. The Cometic is a 4.040 or a 4.100.

The heads and block HAVE to be setup for the Cometic or they will seep coolant.Has a certain Ra value, 50 or so I think.

Mine seeped and I trashed them.

I am thinking about a coupe chassis JUST like that.....man nothing like losing 500lbs like SNAP!

My drivetrain in that car, 10.60's all motor. I am seriously considering it.

You gonna have those Ford boys scratching their noggins!

Little off subject. But I am curious what you did for the headers on that car?

I have been beating his brain up about this swap, K member is AJE, headers are Kooks made for this swap.

Ra has to be 30 or better, which is dam smooth in machining terms. Well not as smooth as a 1 Ra that you need for DLC coating but on a cast iron block or when you mill aluminum heads you need a lot of cutter speed and a slow feed rate. That and some copper gasket spray help seal them up. If you do all that there aren't many problems with the Cometics.

Thanks guys and ya i screwed up on the ci.
Looks like i will be sticking with the felpro`s
Ya its a AJE k-member for mustang for a sbc and if you switch the motor mounts from left to right side then you can bolt in a lsx motor. I also have the AJE th350 trans crossmember with the kooks race headers and everything bolted right in no problem.
This motor was in my 95 impala and went 10;82 with a 150 shot and now i`m about 1,400- 1,500 less wieght

Wow, what a weight reduction. So is it ok to spray a second shot, for a total of 300hp through the NX maf kit? I'm asking for future reference.

I don`t think i will hit it with a 300 shot but maybe a 250 ?
Motor should handle it.
Callies crank
Callies splayed main caps
Oliver billet rods
True JE Custom Pistons $$$$

BIGCOWL, who's wiring harness did you use to run it? Are Kooks the only ones who make headers for that swap?
