Would there be a good place online to order these, or should I go to my local Chevrolet stealer?

 

The Impala Gasket is .028 whereas the Victor Reinz is about .026 (I believe). Stay away from the Mr. Gasket .026 head gaskets... I carefully removed the plastic and lifted the gasket compound with it. Fortunately, Summit has a great refund policy.

If you need it now, go to your Chevrolet "stealer" for about $40 each for the Impala head gaskets.

 

I also would avoid the Mr. Gasket gaskets... same packaging issue, opened very carefully and still lifted some compound with it. Too bad, I liked the .26 idea.

Cometic makes REALY nice gaskets, but not cheap.

Victor Reinz has been making gaskets a long, long time, and they do a darn good job at a GREAT price.

 

DO NOT PUT *ANYTHING* ON A COMPOSITE GASKET. Anything you put on it will compromise it's sealing ability. Especially Hylomar, which acts like a thick grease.

The only gaskets that get any kind of sealing materials are copper gaskets, and they only get a very light coating.

Make sure your sealing surfaces are clean and bone dry. Wipe them down with a lint-free cloth and some acetone.

And, by all means, do not listen to internet expert yokels that have probably never lifted a wrench or have done the same job four times on their own car and they can't figure out *why* the head gaskets keep blowing out.
