Best clutch for me?

I have checked some old posts that seem to mention mostly SPEC clutches.. Some people mentioned McLeod, but no one went into much detail just quick reviews..

I think my clutch may be going out since it's slipping when I take off or if I try to accelerate hard, it slips a lot at the 1-2 shift.. It may just be me because I haven't been driving a manual long, but I've tried letting it out faster and slower and no difference really.. I'm gonna get my mechanic to check it out sometime over the next week or so, and if I need a new one I want to get an upgrade instead of just the stock part..

Right now I just have the B&M Ripper and a Borla cat-back, but in the relatively near future (summer probably) I'll be getting intake mods and hopefully headers as well.. In the long-term I'd love to do some major mods, but I can't plan that far ahead right now..

But what is the best clutch I could get for my situation? I want performance but I don't want to overpay for it.. (If a 300 dollar clutch is almost as good as a 500 dollar one, I'd get the 300... But if it were a smaller difference I'd go for the better one..) And will getting too strong of a clutch (like SPEC III or SPEC IV even though I'm only lightly modded) be a bad thing?

Thanks in advance.

If your car is relatively stock then I would recommend going with a RAM clutch. SPEC has had issues with their clutches so before buying one I would highly recommend reading the problems some people have had. The more clamping force that is exerted by the clutch the harder it is on the drivetrain. This is the case especially if you plan on shifting your car hard.

I'd say the SLP clutch

Good to around 400hp....

Not a bad price either

Link to SLP clutch?

I was looking on the SLP site and I didn't see anything.. Was I missing it.. I seem to remember something for 89 bucks but I think that was just a plate not the whole thing..

Do you have a link to the one your talking about?

As far as the RAM clutches go, do they have different levels or just one? I see one for about 300 in the Summit catalog.. Then they do have a 800 dollar clutch but that's way too much for me to spend..

Thanks..

and thats for the clutch disk...

I have the same combo as above and had the stock flywheel resurfaced with no problems at all.. SLP also offers a new flywheel, but its costly.....

I just put the ram clutch from summit on this weekend. It looks just like stock, but is supposed to hold 400 hp. It feels really good now, not slipping at all ...My car is stock with CAI.

i aso just put in a RAM clutch that i got from summit. I think it would be a good fit for you, as a really heavy-duty clutch will just make your foot sore because it will be so heavy and also will burn out easier. id suggest the RAM clutch.

I vote for the SPEC stage IV ceramic. I got the stage III right now and I have limited mods. All I had was a catback when I installed the stage III. If you don't plan on modding the car any further or not much further then how bout an LT4 replacement?

I have the SLP unit, from all the info they gave me, this is the same as the GM LT4 unit... which should be good to 400hp.
It is the same as an f-body stocker, but with a greater clamping force and about 25 holes drilled in the pressure plate to relieve rotating mass and allow for quicker releases by making it easier to break the vacuum between the clamping surfaces (LT4 does not have this).

I like mine a lot, no chatters and holds great (I figure I'm about 340hp).

I heavy duty clutch would be less likely to slip. Causing them to last a little longer than a stock clutch.

Hyperspeed97z28, do you mean 400hp at the wheels or crank?
