Best cam for Stroker 383 for torque?
Those who know cams, please help.
I am having my LT-1 rebuilt as a 383 stroker, and need advice on the camshaft to choose.
This motor is going back into my 89 Toyota 4wd pickup, and so I am building it for maximum torque. Since I am not concerned with 1/4 mile times, or maximum horsepower at 6400 rpms, what would be a good cam for maximum torque from, say, 2500 to 4500 rpms?
The motor is otherwise stock. The heads will have performance valve job, but thats it. For the exhaust I have to keep the stock manifolds, as they are the only ones that fit the Toyota frame rails. I do have a 3" exhaust past the manifolds though. I will have PCM4Less recalibrate the computer for the 383.
Any suggestions on cam?
Thanks
Erin
P.S. forgot to mention that this has to pass CA smog!!! The conversion into the Toyota has already passed the referee, but I need to keep it smog legal. Thanks for any ideas!!

cam pick
I just built a similiar engine in my 1990 chevy truck. Everyone kept telling me to run the 230/236 comp cam. I decided to step it down one and bought the 224/230 comp cam. The torque is unbelievable. I have to watch how much gas i give it at a light or all I get is tire spin. The idle is really good after the computer reprogram from pcm4less. Hope this helps.
