best brand of oil for lt1?

The best oil for the LT1 under most conditions is Castrol Syntec 0w-30 specifically labeled "Made in Germany".
I say best based on seeing Used Oil Analysis reports from a lot of different users.
You can send in samples of used oil and they measure the wear metal content, some contaminents and some things that have to do with how well the oil is actually holding up to use.

What LT1 specific data are you using to suggest these are good oils for this application?

I picked up a couple hp and tq just by switching to royal purple so that says something to me. And I also saw a test done with a couple different motor oils and royal purple was the only one that passed as an over the counter oil. And it did not just pass it blew the competition away.

You have Used Oil Analysis done?
I know at one point RP did not hold up atall to street use, was fine for racing and really short drain intervals but the running joke was
"it shears out of range just pouring it from the bottle"
Meaning it took VERY little daily driving use to shear the oil down to a thinner weight.

Go to Bobs the oil guy forum, and confuse yourself silly. Oil analysis is the only way to tell what your particular engine needs. Too many variables throughout and engine rebuild, climates, abuse of the engine etc etc.
Personnaly I use Mobil 1, because wal mart generally has it, and my Vette came with it.
I took my abused LT1 out, at 130000 miles and the cross hatch marks were still on the cylinder bores. I used mostly mobil 1. But that was my engine.
Dont get caught up in oil too much. Just worry when it is low, past recommended mileage and using oil/

http://neptune.spacebears.com/index.html in-depth study, done on LS1 but I'm pretty sure the bearings, contact surfaces, and crankcase conditions are very close in similarity
