Best 58mm TB??

Which one is the best, I am looking at either Arizona Speed and Marine that flows around 1040cfm, or the Holley which I haven't seen any flow numbers. thanx for the help!

Re: Best 58mm TB??

They are both 58MM so they should flow about the same. The AS&M is definitely a nice TB. It is all billet I believe and it is highly polished so if you are doing some dress up like I have done when I do my performance mods, then it might be worth the extra money because it is the most expensive. Holley and also the BBK are good TB's also. If you are going for just performance, the BBK would probably be the best bet. But, if you only have a stock intake, you can't do a 58MM without boring the throttle passages on the intake bigger. Well, you can do it, but it wouldn't make much sense.

when you say you have to bore out the intake do you mean you just take a dremel to to the ports on the intake where the tb mounts to make it match the larger ports on the 58mm tb? I just ordered a bbk 58mm and this was my understanding of what i am supposed to do.

or you can take a high speed drill and put a 60mm 180 grit flapper wheel on it, you'll be done in about 10 minutes. just make sure you can get the intake really clean before youput it back on. you dont want alumanum filaments in the cylinders.

The AS&M unit is a quality piece. You wouldn't go wrong choosing it.

Who is gonna see your expensive shiny throttle body under the hood when your hammering down the track, anyhow? Save some bucks, buy the BBK and haul @ss!. Stuff some rags into the two ports and seal it best you can. Grind away and use the gasket as your template. It'll get you real close. Hold up the TB to the bores with a few bolts in by hand, for alignment, and you should be good to go. Vacum out the ports and use compressed air to blow the hell out of the intake to make sure you got everything out, like what was said, it would be real bad to have any shaving get into the engine. Good luck and use the cash you saved to buy more go fast parts!

A lot of people like to look good and go fast also. I have nearly everything under my hood either polished or ceramic coated. I want performance a horsepower both or I guess, I want my cake and to eat it too.

Really it is to each his own. Everything is so damn expensive on these cars. I think(my .02) my bbk looks just fine. I know when my stocker was replaced it was a definate improvement looks wise and performance wise but an extra 100 or so for a "billet" piece? I'll spend my money on more parts so all you guys who like shiny stuff will be gettin their @sses handed to them by me in my not so shiny car!! All in good fun, guys!

Re: Best 58mm TB??

I would go with a AS&M one just for the simple fact that they are not prone to the same problems that the Holley and BBK ones are.

Re: Best 58mm TB??

I know Nomad knows his stuff on TB's so maybe he can enlighten us why the AS&M is so much better. I've heard some bad things about the Holley and BBK's. I just couldn't justify paying close to $500 for an AS&M. I ended up buying my Barely used 58MM for $250 shipped. It works great and does the same thing as the AS&M at half the price. If you want your TB to look good just get a BBK, polish it and add a TB plate.

PS Nomad, that wasn't meant to sound sarcastic.

Re: Best 58mm TB??

I believe there were some throttle shaft issues. Mainly it binding. I believe BBK had fixed the problem since.I haven't had any problems. There is also a fix for having a split blm in the programming. I am sure there is un meterd air entering the throttle body. There is a fix for it by using a piece of 1/2 copper tube and an o-ring. Let me find the link.....
