Best 383 Short Block for the Cash ?

Looks like since I blew my motor this past weekend its time to start looking for a 383 Short Block. I see Combo MotoSports have some stuff, but no prices, kinda wanted to do a bit of comparision before I talk for real.

Anyone know some good places to look ?

Combo's got some of the best prices I've seen. Add in ~$500 in block work at a local machine shop.

I was kinda wondering that route also, buying a kit and giving a local shop everything to do, but wasnt sure on machining / assembly prices.

So If I choose to go that route you think about $500 ?

Yeah, around $300-500 worth of block work (clean, steam, deck, hone, bore, etc), plus whatever labor is to install the parts

I'm thinking about building a 383 myself and have pretty much decided on finding a shop within a half day's driving distance with a good rep. Seen too many horror stories about previously well thought of shops not taking care of long distance customers. I want to be able to reach out and touch my machine shop in a reasonable amount of time.

I did my whole 383 top to bottom for $2500. Block, heads, machine work, intake, valvetrain, gaskets, etc.

If you know what you are looking for and don't mind waiting for deals you could ever do it cheaper. I just keeped checking ebay and the for sale section multiple times a day until I got all my parts.
