Bent 2 rods in my LT1 Stroker..WHY

Hey I just finished up my stroked lt1 383.. I have a xfi292 cam (584 lift, 292 dur.) I had my stock heads ported and a custom valve grind.. Still using stock springs and push rods.. wondering if the shop who did it did them a little to tight or what.. i know your thinking thats to much lift on stock springs but the tested out at over 600 before coil bind, but does the duration matter.. need to get this fixed tonight.. just wondering if anyone had any opinions on what happend? and also i think the shop missed one rocker completly because it was off just sitting in the head.....

Bent 2 rods in my LT1 Stroker..WHY
Can we assume its 2 pushrods you bent?

What rockers were you running? Self aligning or guide plates?

....and those bunch of people are right! The stock springs can't handle a hotcam and you are running one of the most aggressive off the shelf grinds for an LT1.

consider some non self aligning rockers with guide plates. you may not find your rockers sitting in the head after that..

Stock springs on a 383 build....ouch. As mentioned above...you can't even use them on the hotcam(well, it's not wise too use them with it).

I used Comp Cams Magnum Pushrods 7.2".

PN: CCA-7608-16

Keep in mind I have a 350 and not a 383. I think you can still use a 7.2" since you have stock heads, but best for others with 383 experience to chime in.

The choice of pushrods has nothing to do with the heads being stock or not. With a cam change you must check the contact pattern the rocker arm tip makes on the valve top. On this case I suspect valve float caused the pushrods to bend....

If you did not build this motor your self, I would kick the man who did it in the butt. Obviously who ever did it was not too knowledgeable when it comes to lt1s. Listen to the guys on ls1tech and here if you are not sure about what to do with your lt1.

Re: Bent 2 rods in my LT1 Stroker..WHY

ok just got back from summit.. i got the Trick Flow TFS-21407200 PushRods, Comp Cams 787-16 Steel Retainers, and Comp Cams 26918-16 Valve Springs.. This is the Valve Springs Comp Recomended for the Cam so hopefully they will work and the mfd. Date on the tags says 01/10/11 so there new and hopefully not Mexican Springs.. Im kinda pissed at the shop because they tested the stock springs for lift and said it'd be fine and must not have looked at the duration.. There a pretty descent shop they sponsor the dragstrip and have a **** ton of cars running crazy numbers.. maybe it was a honest mistake IDK but i believe he's going to put everything on at no charge.. have to put off my dyno now because im low on funds that was about a 420 dollar trip so0o0o im hopeing for the best!

You still need new valve locks. The beehives take a 7-degree lock.

I say you are lucky if that is all that happened. Look at my thread involving that cam and the wrong valvetrain....
