The benefits of a Dyno tune.
The benefits of a Dyno tune.
I have a mail order tune from PCMFORLESS but feel I'm leaving alot on the table with my set-up. I ran a 13.3 13.4 and two 13.5's last time at the track. My mods are posted. I feel that after reading others #'s I should expect better. I have never did a dyno tune before. What are the benefits of a dyno tune and do my #'s sound a bit off? Has anyone around this forum ever heard of Thunderracing and are they reputable? They are located in Baton Rouge, LA.
Thanks in advance,
Matt

you should be able to pull off high 12's with your mods, so yes I think you are losing some power somewhere. Thunderracing.com is one of the most reputable online stores around.....I am not sure about thier shop, but I know they are a good company and very knowledgeable.

Thanks Markymark. I needed another opinion before arranging the dyno tune. I think with 3.73 gears I could possibly get in the twelves but I do not know about with 3.23 gears which I am running now.

Um yeah your trap is way low. I trapped 109 with a dynotuned hotcam car... Course mine is an M6 with 4.10's... But yours should still be more than 101. Get that thing tuned!~

if that 13.3 at 101 mph is your best with that cam you have some problems. I think you should be 107mph+ and thats the low end. My buddy with just a 224/230 which is a little bigger cam is trapping 109. You have some problems and the tune isn't costing you that much. Dyno tunes can help out a lot. My buddy gained 15rwhp on the dyno with his 224/230 over a pcmforless tune, but 15rwhp does not = the 6-9 mph lower than you should be. I've heard pcmforless hot cam tunes are pretty right on, because they've done so many. You have a problem somewhere else.
Re: The benefits of a Dyno tune.
dyno tunes are good to get that extra bit of WOT power, but typically they are not as street friendly as a good mail order tune. reason being, dyno tunes are typically tuned at WOT only. the average daily driven car will see WOT less than 1% of the time. point being, you might want to think about getting an OBD1 cable (100 bucks or so) to do some data logging and sending that log file back to Brian and let him retune. you will also need a laptop to do this, but if you have access to one, you will save quite a bit of money.
Re: The benefits of a Dyno tune.
I will call Brian tomorrow and ask him if there is anything he can do. The humidity was 85% the night of the runs. My car does appear to be running very rich at idle. The fumes are almost unbearable at times. I also believe my shift points are not correct. The car will shift out at 6500 rpms at times and it doesnt feel like its making hp past 6200.
