before applying gaskets...

Before applying gaskets aren't you supposed to rub mineral spirits or somethinglike that to get rid of any oil on the metal...??

Im installing my headers and I'm basically asking what to do to prep the gaskets or work area
Thanks, Matt

I always clean gasket surfaces. Typically, I use something cheap like alcohol and a lint free rag.

What kind of gaskets are you using? Anyway, just clean off the mating surface as best as you can, with headers its mostly just get bigger chunks of stuff off so they dont leak, you have to worry a lot more about timing gaskets and head gaskets.

Depends on which gaskets....

Normal ones I use "High-Tack". Certian ones I used a high-temp RTV, and others I use nothing at all, it kinda depends on where and what the gasket is for.

For normal header gaskets I'd most likely use some "High-Tack" it comes in a small spray-can and you coat the gaskets with it. it works excellent for sealing things like that.

I'm putting my Hookers in in a few weeks, but I'm using the ultra-copper gaskets, thus no sealent required.

Using gasket sealent on header gaskets is useless do to the high temperatures. Just make sure both surfaces are clean, flat and dry. Most "blow outs" are caused by the bolts coming lose. Get locking ones or check them often.
