Beehive springs on stock LT1 heads
Beehive springs on stock LT1 heads
Is there a beehive spring that will fit the stock LT1 heads without machining and other install issues?
I am considering 1.7 or 1.6 roller rockers and a spring change on the stock cam. I should change the cam, but with gas prices the way they are, not sure the power is worth the fuel cost.
I would expect to need shims, locks, and retainers, but I was hoping to get it done without pulling the heads.
Thanks

Re: Beehive springs on stock LT1 heads
I just had the 26918 beehives installed with comp cams matching chromoly retainers, spring seats, and +.050 locks. This fits very well. The installed height ended up being about 1.74".
I couldn't get the beehives installed with the heads on the car with the spring compressor I had, so I just pulled the heads off and ended up redoing the heads anyway (more porting, 3 angle valve job, resurface) and putting in a different cam, 224/236 CC blower cam.
I just got the car running this week, so the jury is still out. Love that cam, it sounds great and idles very nice.

Re: Beehive springs on stock LT1 heads
Thanks for the information guys.
I followed your lead and checked out the springs on the comp cam website.
Since I am staying with the stock cam. I was wondering if I needed the spring pressure that the 26918 has.
The 26915 seems like the same spring with a lower seat pressure.
Any thoughts as to which would be better?
thanks

[QUOTE=aggiez28]Beehive springs on stock LT1 heads
advanced tech ?????
They are the most advanced type of spring out there, GM is supposed to have spent 20 million in development.
If my post with a real question was a waste, how useful was yours?

Re: Beehive springs on stock LT1 heads
Bringing this one back from the dead.
I have a stock LT1 in my road racecar. By rule, the engine must be 100% stock. One of the things we can change is valvesprings. I'm looking to use the beehive spring to get rid of some un-needed weight on the valvetrain. Since our class has HP/TQ # limits, I'm not looking for more peak power, just a broader curve. Right now the hot ticket spring cost wise is the LT4 springs.
Would an OEM LS1 spring work OK? Can I use the LS1 retainers and all? I see alot of folks sugesting the 915's from Comp for what my needs are. Is this still the case? I'll be getting a set of heads rebuilt in the next week or two, and was hoping to address any improvements I can make under the current limit of the class rules.

Re: Beehive springs on stock LT1 heads
I ran stock LS6 springs with LS1 retainers and my LT1 Locks on my 218/224 CC. Now that I went with a custom cam 22x/23x I upgraded springs to the 26918's for the seat pressure I needed for this cam.
