Beehive Shape Ovate valve springs. Can they be used on LT1's?
Beehive Shape Ovate valve springs. Can they be used on LT1's?
They are made for LS1s but my inquisitive mind wondered just a bit off the beaten path. I am interested on 1.7 RRs (scorpions) and I wondered if this springs could be frankenfit into an LT1.
By the way whats the part number for the Scorpions 1.7 RR's? anyone know?

I know my friend used the new beehive springs when he replaced the cam in his LT1. I think he used one of these, but I'm not completely sure.

I'll be putting the beehives on my LT1 heads this week. Part number 26915-16 and the retainers P/N is 787-16.
These are the springs that Comp Cams tech line recomended to me for my 224/230 112 cam. I liked the info I read on their better stability in the higher rpms.
They told me my stock locks would work fine. Is that wrong?

Just curious, what are the advantages to beehive springs (seat pressure / spring rate / max lift)? I have comp 987's and I've wondered if I couldn't be running a more efficent spring given the fact that I have a small cam.

that page explains the benefits
in short:
lighter valvetrain weight
more efficent
more stable
less seat pressure
im gonna get a set for my heads. what did you guys pay for yours?
My beehives showed up on monday. I have a set of LE heads sitting in the basement that came with the 987's. From what I have heard and read it looks like the beehives are the way to go for many applications. In my case they will be used with the (puny) Hotcam. Ill. emissions is the reason for this choice.
Anyways the part # for the springs is 26918-16, 787-16 for the retainers, and 648-16 for the keepers. Hope this info helps.

The set up is not cheap. But then again I was willing to pay for what I considerded good advice.
$232 for the package. I'm sure you can shop around and find it for a for a few bucks cheaper.
In my case I owed The Man for his time and probably got a deal after all was said and done.

I am buying
63-26918-16 Beehives
63-648-16 11/32 7 degree steel locks
63-4501-16 Comp Cams High Energy Rocker Arm studs 7/16
Or should I just get the Scorpion RRs and LT4 springs with GM guideplates and call it a day? My set up is for street only...

I have them installed on stock heads with a Crane 227 cam. I used
the 26915s. Part # are:
26915 springs
795-16 retainers (10*)
614-16 locks (10* +.050")
4705-16 spring seats
On a stock aluminum LT1 head this setup should
result in a 1.745" installed height.
